I wanted to try to catch up with all of my fellow Janiacs, but can't believe I've been paused for nearly 11 months. To catch up will mean that I have to make 3 blocks a day. I tried that, but A10 completely stumped me. It sat there for days. Every time I passed by, I couldn't bring myself to start it. I finally jumped in 4 days after printing out my block. I decided to use thatquilt.com's method http://thatquilt.blogspot.com/2009/01/10.html . Here is my contortion sewing of the frame [I'm using the back of the fabric for the background of this one]

In the end, it wasn't that hard... just very slow and careful. So, you may remember that I'm doing 3 Janes. Here are A2, A4, and B11

And here are A10, C12 and B9

I have closeups of all of them, but they need resizing. So this is all for now.

QuiltnNan, I can't believe it's been 11 months since you posted DJ blocks, either!! But so good to see blocks from you. And three of each - that's impressive. I mentioned before, I think there are enough of us that are behind that maybe we can keep going longer to catch up after the official end was scheduled to be. ?? I sew on the dining room table, so between the holidays and my turn to host book club and ladies game night I was on break since early December. But I'm set up again and glad that next week is a catch up week. Nice planning, Gus!

Here is BR-8, my last block for this week. It's good to sew again.

Cindy, thanks. I was wondering the other morning if we could extend this thread. However, Gus may be worn out by then And your tri looks great.

Catching up: C-8 Hani's Crown. Katybob, I used the freezer paper that you recommended for this one. It probably would have been better paper pieced, but I was anxious to try my new paper. It went through the printer just fine.

No Cindy - when a sketch looks different from the picture in the book I examine it really really closely and start drawing myself. My first love is actually painting and drawing so maybe that's why I think I've been able to get close?? thanks

This is the chart I made so it's easier to pick the fabrics for the blocks I want to work on.... The spaces near the top are mostly because I used fabric scraps and had nothing left. There are some spaces near the bottom where I havent quite decided yet. [you will see there are no tris ...ohoh... yes I will do them but I was spending so much time making fabric decisions this is where I decided to start]

Here is my J8 [week of March 17] no remarkable changes to the thatquilt.com instruction. They used HST units with one set of background and print fabrics cut at 2 1/4" - which adds up correctly - the finished size of those units is 1 3/8" add 7/8" for the HST measurement and you get 2 1/4" . I didnt pper piece - I simply cut two background squares at 1 1/8" so they would finish 5/8" and cut a long strip 7/8" wide of the print and then used the log cabin method to carefully attach it all the way around the square. Border strips of background, melons and done!

My I-6 [week of January 27...and yes, therefore late - but who's checking???] is almost done - I just have to add 2 of the melons.
If I really do finish for our Fall show - of course, I'll pop back in... I have 123 blocks/tris done - 14 are tris - so 60 squares and 38 tris to go!

I decided I should really make a tri again... so back to July 29?? with RS4
well .... I think I made this a' la' Jane Stickle... sew as you go ... make up the pattern as you go or whatever
My advice for those who havent tackled it - go to thatquilt.com trace the book pattern and use a paper piecing method. I will post a few pics just so you can get an idea of my thought process... what not to do - it only took an hour and half and looks ok, but not sure worth trying a re-do on. I decided the original looked more "square" at the bottom and the sketch too diamond-like. so I started by aligning my diagonal on the ruler with the straight grain of fabric and the 3" marks to make a print triangle and went from there by adding first background cut at /8" and then print cut at 1 1/2". I cut a 2 1/2" square and then realized the points would be cut off so I chopped it down leaving 1 3/4" of background at the top edges. Really.... simply follow instructions at the other websites...

I still have some renovations to finish/touch up. Then I'm selling the home The neighbors here are the worst in the world... I won't go into specifics ... suffice it to say that the bad neighbors bookend me and the police have been called on multiple occasions. Deep breath. So there will be another pause in my journey this summer when I pack up and move back to my previous condo... luckily I'd rented it out instead of selling it. So I don't have a sewing studio after all. But I'm determined to get more of my blocks done, so I'm set up in parts of the kitchen I'd finished up two quilts for my older DGKs when I went there for Christmas. They just loved them. http://www.quiltingboard.com/picture...s-t209374.html . I've been doing some small projects as I'd developed a sewing withdrawal. Since I made a mess of the kitchen with those, I decided that the DJ blocks just had to continue. I'll post some pics.
