No postings for a few days ladies!! where are we all?? Well - Cindy is having fun sewing away from home sewNso is almost done, katybob is right on schedule... and I finally completed J-10! YAY took over a week [this will not work if my goal is to hang it at our show September 21 unless it is of 2015!]

I did only work on J-10 during the evening - but for 2-3 hrs per night almost every night for a week - a lot of reverse sewing in the middle section If I had it to do over - I would still cut the individual pieces - melons and triangles - for the inner section, but I would layer the triangle seamlines directly over the melon seamlines, baste the layers together on the seamlines and back-baste to applique... this is where you carefully pull the basting thread out away from you as you applique to keep everything in line.

here are some
pics...

wow - it's really not as messy as it looks at the center point!

whew - can finally move on!
Gus

Sorry I ignored you Dotty! Thanks meremer!
We are getting ready to go to the Moorpark zoo with Steph's birds to put on a show... she has a birds of prey outreach - a 501[c]3 nonprofit. we house five nonreleasable birds at our home [outside of course!] and take them various places for educational purposes. Here are the two screech owls they are only about 8" tall and weigh 150gm! awesome and very loving! ooops that pic is so big!

Beautiful owls and beautiful block, Gus. Dotty, it's warming up quickly in Texas -- my daughter lives in Dallas and I get regular weather reports. I put together J-4, which is probably one of the easiest blocks in the quilt, and had to take it apart because I sewed the center piece in upside down. Apparently I needed a break from Jane, so I'm sewing the binding to a quilt for one of my grandsons whose birthday's coming up.

Thanks katybob - ooh that's nice - it has been such a wet cold winter here.
Our friends live in Grapevine - only half an hour from DFW airport !
Looking forward to our trip.

owls are very very sweet! I took this picture at the office of Steph's pain specialist Thursday. He always wants her to bring one or more of the owls with her because the patients there seem to forget all about the ain they have when she comes in. Owls are tactile - I wouldnt go out and try to pet one out in the wild! But Ryker - our great horned who had a wing caught in barbed wire in Indiana, was able to be pet by my 1yr old DGS the day he arrived. It is as though they sense the fact they were rescued.

Just a little FYI - I will be using the same method to make this week's blocks as thatquilt.com. Auntreen has only completed LS3 and she appliqued the melons rather than reverse app - havent looked at Jane closely enough to decide which I'll do here!

ok....realized I didnt do J-11.... ummmm
should I do it like Jane again??? after J-10!!?? if you look at it carefully it is not appliqued on top - the corners are reverse?? actually the more I look I think it is really tricky - it looks almost as if the upper left and lower right melons are reverse and the others are on top! look at the shadows in the picture and the stitching where I think it is reverse. The center is obviously another piece of background. Well, some info for those who want to be more like Jane than me - today, I think I will pass on this one! I'm appliqueing on top!

Gus, I didn't realize til I'd finished J-11 that the pattern shows the four outside melons touching the two in the center, but they're clearly separated in the picture of the block. Oh, well, mine's done and they touch and I'd just as soon not redo blocks with melons.
