sunbonnetsue,
welcome aboard!! no one has really planned a fabric exchange for this and many of us are using different types of fabric choices. Mine is civil war, as are a few others. You are absolutely correct - it would have been loads easier ....well a little work....but cheaper!! What I will suggest is that you get some jelly rolls you like and charm packs. They will be a better investment for the cash outlay! A charm and a half will cover most squares

Bottom Left Corner Kite

Here are all the kites. They are all done and I'll go back to where we are supposed to be on the schedule. (oops! now you know my secret, you can see all my mess-top left corner, haha)

I don't want to know how far behind I am with the blocks! Like Scarlett, I will worry about that tomorrow.

It was a beautiful day today. We took the dogs for a nice walk in the woods. The forsythia and daffodils are blooming. All that fresh air and excercise and I came home and took a nap.

Very cute owls, Monica!

Wonderful kites, Cindy! I made the bottom left corner a couple of days ago and it wasn't as difficult as I thought it would be, but it took forever -- all those little bitty pieces! The weather's beautiful here, too. I'm hoping to spend most of the day in the yard tomorrow.

Not been here for a while - lovely kites Cindy !

Sorry to be so late responding to your question re hand quilting Gus - and my honest answer is - no - I haven't really done very much at all. For the life of me I cannot "rock" - I just stab stitch. But I am going to have a go - "I think" LOL.
I couldn't open the link to Thimblelady. I will try and find it.
I am just looking at sashing - any idea how much fabric I shall need anyone? Thanks

Dotty - apparently the reason the thimblelady link doesn't work is because I left the "/" at the end of the .com .....uggghhh technicalities! I had shortened the link to the main site, or so I thought, because I was in the middle of reading one of her sections. Try this: http://www.thimblelady.com
It actually put on the forward slash while I pasted it in?? I removed it, but if it all fails, simply google it because it is the right site.

On your sashing requirements... If you are making it the "Jane Way" you will need to cut 392 pieces at 1" x 5" and 196 1" squares for the interior. You have 13 rows of 13 squares with sashing all around - so 14 x 14 for the sides and another 14 x 14 for the tops and bottoms - and 14 x 14 corner stones.

although if you were to be a perfect cutter you could conceivably cut 40-42 pieces of sashing across, I advise figuring at 30 to give you some wiggle room - 392/30 ~ 13 x 6" [a little extra for the height] = 78" [1 1/6yd] You will need very little for the corner stones - 1/4 yard is more than adequate - realistically, you could cut it using the fabric you need for sashing. Now you will need another 48 x 9 for triangles and I imagine about 12 x 8 for either side of the kites - lets say another 1/2 yard here. Then come your scallops! Even if you cut the deepest part 4" - which you wont need - it will take about 320" around [80x80] divide by 4 .... 32" ..... I would say 2 3/4yd is far more than adequate.
I have not finished yet havent looked anywhere to see - but I will say I always have leftover fabric and I always get far less than is stated in patterns.

Week 65. Although LS4 was a bit of a pain, these were pretty straight forward

Katybob, it does look like LS4 is a pain, and I've been pondering how to tackle it. Yours looks so nice, I think I'll do what it looks like you've done. Originally I thought about just leaving that extra seam out - the background at the top of the 3rd applique piece up from the bottom. But yours looks so nice I think I'll try to do it like yours.
