Default Delaware

Here is my Delaware block...
I liked this block... maybe because it went together so fast. Can't say that I liked the colors I picked out but... what the heck.

Tomilu, I'm going to leave the corners plain on the Hawaii block. I think it will fit in better with the others that way. I think you'll find a way to modify it. Glad you had such a nice retreat.

PokerDiva, You spoke about the fabric in the center of mine. It was a recent purchase in the batiks and was a bit of a shock in price. The new prices have gone from 9.25 to 11.50 a yard. ACK.....

Mad Mimm, Beautiful!! But then, I like purple too. Isn't is amazing how those colors sneak in when you aren't looking.

Nicky, I work on my 2011 Buildings occasionally too. I'd sure like to get the top finished even if it doesn't get quilted right away. Be sure and post it when you're finished.

CK I think the center fabric on yours is very striking - whoever said it reminds them of a lightning storm was right.
Whitepine and KGreene those are some lovely fabrics in your blocks. Let's face it, there is not an "uggo" block in the group!

Here is my Arkansas block. I am having trouble with pieces shifting and have been playing with my presser foot settings and finally gave in and switched to a walking foot. Still had a bunch of movement so the top line is sewed spot on the line, but the back side is always off. Strangely enough does not seeUm to affect the final block (except of course that it is not perfectly square but I'll worry about that later!).

And now... California here I come!!!

I had intended this to be a predominantly blue block but somehow those sneaky purples stole the show. so I am determined that my next block will be green and I will get a blue one out of the bunch if it kills me! I am beginning to see too much purple in my blocks. Go figure, it is a favorite color of mine.
Sheila, your block is beautiful and I love the colors. I got a lot out of Carol's instructions in the front of the book about pinning and basting to avoid shifting of the sections. Works like a charm!

Nicky, I agree, those instructions are indeed very helpful. I have been pinning and basting and am still having the shifting problem so the cause really does have me stumped. I can only surmise that I am somehow moving the blocks when I pin, so I am being more attentive to that process and still fiddling with settings on my machine. I love my sewing machine but if I had one critique of the machine, shifting fabric is it. I'm not sure if it is user error or what - when it comes to boo-boos, I tend to blame my own inexperience first! I'll keep fiddling and I am sure I will get it figured out. The walking foot definitely helps - I just have to get my pinning and foot pressure dialed in!

I am excited, hubby has today off work so I am hopeful to get a really good jump on my California block! Wheee!!!

I agree with this suggestion if you think the block is too busy. It would be a beautiful single block.
But as I sit her and look at the 4 Hawaii blocks in a wall hanging, I do like the blocks when all together. Maybe I'll make one without the corners for my lap quilt, even though it was one of the ones I was going to leave out.

I'm finally caught up again. Here is California, with a picture of all the January blocks together, as well as Colorado, Connecticut and Delaware.

I had a bear of a time getting California to line up. I basted and ripped, basted and ripped till there was no paper on the seams. So I decided to leave it be.
