No...everyone is NOT doing hand applique. You can do it however you would like. Its your quilt! :D Some of us are doing needle turn (by hand), some are using freezer paper, some using appliqe paper, some are using fusible and machining....there are lots of ways to get it done! Find a method that you are comfortable with and jump in!

I am doing hand applique by machine  it is called invisible machine applique, pieces are turned under before I applique them to the squares by machine. You can use any applique method you want. If you just put in Applique tutorials in a search engine like Google or Bing, many hits will come up. And you can go through them and find your favorite method. :-P

you won't be behind.
I can't even sew right now.
I am helping family with babies, hospital stays, and now a surgery is coming up in family.
On top of that, my sewing room has been discombobulated for a surface reno:XD:
I'm chomping at the bit over that, but can't do it by myself.
Have to be patient and help hubby when I don't have kidlins.
Join after Christmas. You won't be alone! ;-)

GV09, I really am enjoying your color choices, don't worry, I've only finished one block, and half way done with the second, with the kids and granddaughter moving back home and working all the time, I really do understand, but I am determined to get this quilt finished before winter is over :D  P.S. Welcome to the board and the group
