I'm going to be doing it. I think 14 yds is a lot of fabric. But I cannot believe you use it all.
Has anyone made any of the other mystery quilts- is there fabric left over?

I love your color selection. I just picked from my stash. I may have to add more color as I go along, but I am really trying to get rid of stash first.

My grey is darker than Bonnie's looks I hope not too dark. It looks good with the other colors so far.

I posted this photo on one of the earlier threads, but since this seems to be the new official place to follow this project, I'm posting it again here. It's so much fun to see all the different fabric choices folks are making! The black print on the far right was my inspiration and am considering it for final border. Think I'm gonna go with the darker grey for the constant, or may use both and hold it to just the two?

I have never made a mystery quilt, but I am cutting this pattern in 1/2. I know I did not have as much grey as it called for and I did get mine all cut with the yardage I had. I can't remember how much less I had. But I was sweating it near the end. May be a good idea to get as close as you can to what she calls for.

Ok found it another way to do 4 patches, no video but it's slick and pretty much the same as video, except alittle more detail of how much fabric needed to produce a certain amount of 4 patches. I'm all about easy lol

I found it extremely helpful I'm not very experienced from the cutting/piecing end of things and I could just see
myself making mistakes that would force me to go buy more fabric and that is something I'd prefer not to do...I'm grateful for the advice!

Wish I'd seen the Lauder video BEFORE I cut all my strips 2"
Oh, well I'll get more "accuracy in cutting" practice making those 4 patches. I'm 1/3 done.

I am in this year. I have watched previous years and always kicked myself for not trying one of her patterns. I decided to do a Christmas theme, so my colors are red, green, gold with a gingerbread brown "constant" and cream background. I hope this works well. So far I have my step one cut and halfway sewn. Just need time to finish the twosies. I was glad to see an easy step to start the process.

Someone commented on the estimated yardage - if I remember correctly, the estimate had a quarter yard "fudge factor" per color. This will be a big quilt, so the yardage seemed about right, especially if she uses any quick corners because those eat up yardage. Also consider what is in the seam allowances. The smaller the pieces, more ends up on the back. Ie 1/2" finished strip will have as much showing on the front as is in the seam allowance.

They sell them at JoAnn's for just a few dollars. I bought them yrs ago, never used them. Now I have a reason to pull them out. lol
p.s. I LOVE my flying geese ruler.
