I have fabrics cut for cat's paw and "confounded" rose so hope to get those sewn up today. I think I have 10 blocks done, far from being caught up, but not worried about it since I didn't get to start until the end of February. I am having so much fun with these blocks.

I am having a "girls day out" with 3 friends Friday. We have 4 quilt shops on the list and maybe a couple more on the trip back if there is time. I will take my KT fabrics to see what else I might like to add.

Default PPing "y" seams continued

first photo shows the opposite point of the triangle that is pinned at the points...now sew from the outside edge to the "V" stopping at the threads end of the previous seam...pivot the piece around and sew a few stitches . remove from machine.
second photo shows how it looks from the front.

third photo shows how it looks from the front.

Excellent tutorial, Honchey!! and to think you could post while taking care of grandson Tommy. He is a real cute guy.

Getting ready for incoming turkeys & ducks...may be they will come tomorrow. I gotta go to Kirksville and have my window in the van replace tomorrow...I pushed too hard with the 1x6s & 1x8s 12 foot long to get them to fit and they cracked the windshield. Of course, we had raised the deductible so it comes out of our pocket. But I will be able to visit the quilt shop there...

CarrieM ... take your time for CR and you'll be just fine with it! Looks like you have a great Friday FART oin the works!

Honchey ... great pics and explanations for all!

Extra Y-seam tip ... I stab the pins thru in several places along the seam, to get it all lined up good. Then do the traditional in/out pinning, and pull out the stabbed ones. If I have problems holding it all still and lined up, I also stab thru the seams that I'm not sewing, and that has helped a lot (just figured that one out last night while doing CR!)

OMG
QNSue ... yes, glass is not forgiving when trying to cram things in! Poor you for the extra costs. So the question that begs to be asked ... what are you building?

Which leads me to ask
Everyone ... does anyone have one of those wooden barn quilts on their property?

I don't! ... If I was on the farm, there'd be one for sure. Here, there just really isn't a "right" place for it. Unless I had a small one in the flowerbeds?

Default Closed Seam "Y" as in Eastertide

I hope this helps anyone that has a problem with this type of joining. I only remove the paper in the area of the seam I am sewing. that helps with keeping the bulk down and I also press seams open when they won't cooperate.

With right sides together place pin thru point of the square to the closed "V" of the main section

align the corner points and sides to make sure they are squared and straight.. stitch from the outside edge to the end of the line do not go over it...pivot around...sew a few stitches...remove from machine.

Clip the seam at the "V" to where you ended the stitching on an angle to just inside the point leaving one or two threads... Do NOT go past it.

finger press the seam open...swing the square around so that you can align the other side for sewing...pin the points then fold the piece so it lays flat and you can see where the other seam ended.

sew from the outside edge to the ended seam then pivot around sew a few more stitches remove from machine...finger press the seam ...turn the piece over and it should be nice and flat.
