Oh, I know you were not remarking on my problem block QNS! I just did not get far enough away from the blocks when I shot the photo. They were up on my cutting table, and I needed to be taller (I'm only 5' 3")! I was soooo wanting to get those two finished and out of my sight, that is why I did not scan them like I usually do. Frustration was setting in that I could not get that seam matched. LOL

I am told best things come in a small package...our sweet dd is 5'2". I was most always the tallest one in the crowd at 5'8" and could not hide in the crowd if I tried...when I grew up. Later I meet with taller people, and realized I could be thankful I was not six foot plus. Gran always said, " I don't care how tall you grow, just don't bend out like me!" Alas, I did after carrying three big babies...but would not trade any of the three off to gain my shape back.

I do always have problems trying to line the block up with the camera, and hold it steady, taking a big breath and holding it while I click the shutter. It is harder trying to line up everything with one eye...sitting a glass on the table can make it land on the floor...no solution to the problem. 'Tis just life.

Love your blocks, Jeanie. I see that my camera is related to yours...but I am sure your blocks are straight and blocks are perfect, unlike mine. Love the color in your blocks.
I had not heard the CWD had been found in Iowa recently--sounds like it was in SW Ia and on a breeding facility in NC Ia, rather than here in the NE. But yes the deer are fed very well by farmers. They maul corn fields for corn (wild turkeys do, too) and love the tender alfalfa sprouts. We had a DNR person tell us deer don't like alfalfa. Okay so we'd watch the deer come and go to our hay shed and reach through the gates to get at it. Here in Iowa you have a 1 in 77 chance of hitting a dear. They caused $27 M of damage to Iowa motorists in 2010 for an average of over $3000 per accident. 90 years ago when my dad was a kid it was a big thing to see a deer, How times have changed.

I remember as a child, my dad, and all my uncles and grandfather would all go deer hunting when it was in season. We had a lot of venison in our menu as a child. I remember my mom use to soak the venison in vinegar to get the "wild" taste out of it. Here in CA, they do not have any of the corn, or alfalfa, wheat type of feed for them. They live in the hills where there is sagebrush, so the taste was quite strong. I remember in my late teens, helping to skin and cut up venison. Gosh that conversation brought back lots of memories!!!

Deer season was a very big thing at my house as a kid. That was before we had electricity so about 4:30 the keroscene lanteran would light the kitchen as Mom fixed my brothers a quick breakfast and send them off to the place they had scouted out so they could be there before that 30 minutes before sunrise when season startd. All of my brothers had their tags so it was always a contest to see who came in first with a deer. I never knew it was gamey tasting since that was our primary meat because the beef we raised went to the sale barn for a cash crop. I once thought I should keep up with them, got my gun permit and started the gun selection process. My brothers offered to let me try theirs and graciously set up a tin can on a fence post for me to shoot at. I followed all of their instructions as I confidently lifted the gun to my shoulder, sighted down the barrel, pulled the trigger and promptly sat on my keister! That was the end of my deer hunting! Ah, yes, Jeanie....memories. BTW, your blocks are gorgeous.

GG that's the reason I have 223. Just big enough ta shoot a deer & not so big ta hurt me. What I don't like is early huntin'. There's not enough hot tea ta keep me warm enough ta hunt in th'mornin. I prefer ta hunt in the evenin'. I sure hope I git a deer this year before my asthma tries ta set in.

I've never deer hunted. I do enjoy going to the shooting range (just up the road) and doing some target practice though. I did some squirrel hunting with my dad when I was a kid.

I helped butcher many deer early in our marriage. We used to grind our own burger, cut steaks and loin. One of our favorite parts was the heart. My husband hasn't hunted the last few years, so we eat more beef now. Our two older kids took hunter's safety last fall, so they have been thinking about hunting this year. Not sure if they will or not....didn't practice much.

DS likes to hunt in the fall. I had a freezer failure a couple of years ago--actually one of the little ones left the door ajar. So I got my canner out and canned the beef and venison. Boy that made good stew! I really think what we harvest here has a less gamey taste because of the deer foraging in the fields. Glad this recalled memories.

JeanieG you are taller than me, I am only 5 ft 2 inch and everbody towers over me it is so unfair as my parents were both over 5ft 10inch and two brothers over 6 ft, so what happened to me
I am still trying to get some triangles sewn, DD was coming home on the weekend but has had to cancel, so will plod along at them. I am not sure if I am going to do Bonnie's mystery (yet) as I am tossing up whether to make the New York Beauty quilt that is starting here on the 1st October, so many quilt so little time
