Janie, I promised dh he got to use the new Bernina for his kilt sewing that he does for himself and he also quilts. In fact, his free motion is better than mine!! Right now, we are finishing up the Christmas presents two years ago for our son and daughter...too many thicknesses for my Bernina 1530. If I get the binding done on the table runner, Dd's is already to go. Found the fabric in Michigan and love how it sparkles for dd. Like snow crystals in blue and silver. son's is woodier with a 'log' in the center of the table runner.

I started to put binding on dgs birthday quilt, its 60 by 66, and broke the needle on the 1530; started on the new one 550, and broke the thread there, so I sat lunch on. The turkey was not cooked enough, did not taste like a butterball turkey and the turkey ran over in the oven, leaving a liquid trail of broth to the island. Commercial mix for gravy was not to our liking, so the hens got it in the afternoon. I will boil the bones for noodles and turkey; save some turkey meat to make a turkey salad sandwich with our surplus of eggs.

So I finished one side of the binding for dgs 's quilt, and then tackled the FWQ and put the binding on one side of it...using the new machine. No other new machine right now; plan to pick up the second one on Saturday...will wait and see what happens then...and will pick up the tables as well.

I'm more a traditionalist, so I liked the every other placement best.

Yes QNSue ... we do have fires burning here too. There's a couple in Alberta right now that are getting a lot of coverage. Thus why I asked JanieW. There were some in New Brunswick and Ontario. I think they are over with. The British Columbia interior always have a lot each year too.

BC I can believe; I have traveled through the area..a lot like Northern California or Colorado. Texas has had several because of no rain for so long.

We had to turn on our air conditioner today; it was a hot day. New chicks are settling in.[ATTACH=CONFIG]413556[/ATTACH]The chicken tractor A-frame before dh finished it. Upper part is their roosting area, with a 'stairway' down to main floor. That locks them up for security of a night, GardenGal. Downstairs has wire covering so we can see in and the chicks can see out.

QuiltE, the fire near Nordegg is about 200kms from us. We usually go to the mountains near Nordegg on Mothers' Day/ we go for a hike and then stop at the neatest little restaurant for supper. Not this year. They phoned my son Saturday night for permission to close the highway and I believe it is getting worse since then. it is very dry here and we have had more wind than usual. The forecast is for 30 to 40 mm of rain this weekend and I hope Nordegg gets all of it.

Re the achimenes, I will be happy to send you some rhizomes and anyone else who wants them, but it will have to wait until next spring when I can harvest them. This is the neatest plant as it goes dormant during the fall/winter when you stop watering. While they are growing they are reproducing the rhizomes. Then they sit there looking like they are dead. Then in March, they come to life and bloom their little hearts out till you stop watering them. I will send anyone who wants a few rhizomes ( they look like teeny pine cones) next spring after the danger of frost is passed.

Assuming you are a Leafs fan??? ( should really be Leaves!) QuiltE are you wearing a black armband? What a weird hockey game!

QNS, Nordegg is fairly close to BC, it's right in the Rocky Mountains and has the same landscape as much of BC. The Alberta Rockies are really, really gorgeous, as much as in BC. We live about 3 hours from Banff and the same distance form the Columbia Ice Fields so we are able to go there for day trips.

I think that is so cool that your husband sews, and kilts no less. Too bad he usurped your new Bernina, but good on ya for sharing.

I am filthy from all my outside mucking in the garden so am heading for a long soak.

Janie I am not sure what I will tackle next, I have one on the design wall just waiting for me to finish the applique and finish putting it together, only 5 flowers to go and I am really really slow at hand applique, but of course I can always work on:

Pam Bono's Out of the Darkness- not even to the halfway mark
Dresden using 4 strips - not sure that I am liking this one, have only sewn a few strips together
Mini Stars - 4 inch stars using my scraps - have made 39
Marjen for Error - a machine embroidered quilt only have 5 more embroideries to do - 3 after today
Sylvia's Bridal Sampler - gee I have 4 blocks made
Bonnie Hunters new Wild and Goosey block - making these little 3 inch block with the scraps left over from the mini stars - have made 7

There is probably a few more but I don't want you all to think that I just start things cause I want to start Bonnie Smith Mountain quilt for my DS, can I start it, can I start it, can I start it huh huh

I had a busy day. I had ta go a Lubbock ta see my blood Dr. Actually , 'cause o' road construction, I was late & saw his assistant. I have seen her before, but w/him. My iron levels are risin' faster than before, & I might actually need ta have blood drawn in the next few years. I'm so glad that I'm seein' him way before I have had trouble.

We then spent the rest o' the day online lookin' for another house then went & looked at 2 o' 'em.
I am a bit sad.

Bev you have to look at this as an adventure, looking at wonderful and not so wonderful houses until you find the perfect one for you, it's out there, you just haven't found it yet. Every week there will be more houses listed, just keep looking online so you don't miss any.

When our DS was looking he checked the internet every day and his home was listed on the Thursday, we both saw the new listing, he had an inspection on the Saturday, shook hand on the deal and signed contracts on the Monday and he had been looking for over 6 months.

Sorry about the house dublb. I got your replacement block done--but forgot to take it to town today. Guess had other things on my mind with my friend's funeral. So hopefully soon I will get it sent.

QNS--just so busy you and MrQNS are! Close to 90 up here today-waiting til tomorrow to plant those plants that need to get in the ground. Glad I waited as frost for 2 nights in a row here. Wonderful chicken Teepee.

Such a good farmer friend, QE! And you are so right--such great solitude in the tractor--mind is free to roam as long as it comes back when you are at the end of the field and there's a fence to watch out for!!
