I finally pulled fabrics for the Mystery Quilt. The colors are so muddy and dark in the photo, think jewel tones. But it is snowing outside so I decided that I would try indoor pics. And yes, the second one is the Queen Quilt Inspector helping me.

Bobbie- the floral was my favorite and the purple looks awesome with it - I just couldn't see spending 9.00 a yard times over 3 yards for a quilt I am not sure what it will look like ****big sigh*****

Love all the quilt inspectors

All of the fabrics that I pulled from my stash for this quilt cost on the average of $1.00 a yard. Hooray for thrift stores! The caveat is that you have to cruise them regularly. I am with you, I would not go out to buy fabric for a quilt that I don't know what it will look like when I am done.

His name is Rusty and he is a handful! He was about 9 or 10 months old in that picture, he is now 2 1/2 and into everything just like a two year old LOL I looked up his coloring and he is called a Mackerel Tabby because of the scales of the Mackerel fish. Never heard them called a ginger cat, always called them tabby's.

He is a big time lover, I get kisses all the time and he purrs at the drop of a hat

Ok, now I need some help. I have my first installment pieces cut and the hourglass units are sewn together, but I find no place in the directions to tell me what size I need to square them to. Are the rest of you just cutting off the dogears or are you squaring the blocks to a certain size, maybe 61/2"?

I was very careful cutting and sewing, and even squared the cut pieces before sewing, but I can tell that my blocks are not completely square after sewing them.

from the blog answers on mccalls quilting website the squares should measure 6" unfinished. see comments below from their website. here is the weblink on mccalls. http://www.mccallsquilting.com/artic...in_Three_Parts

Answer for kingt

At the end of Part 1, your UNFINISHED (raw edge) blocks should now measure 6 INCHES SQUARE. (Do NOT trim your Part 1 unfinished blocks smaller than 6 inches square!) Jan 10, 2012 at 08:36 AM

Final measurement of first two squares

I am really pretty new at this and am still not completely understanding answers to others who had the same question I did. So let me ask the question this way. After all the squares are sewn as directed, and we are going to square them up and wait for part 2 instructions, do we square them up to 6 inches or do we square them up to 5 1/2 inches? got my magazine copy in today now to finish picking fabs. still trying not to buy any fabs so..... i'm still looking through my fabrics. i normally only buy fabrics for projects so dont have a lot of "extra" fabrics. this is gonna be tough for the 3+ yards but i'm hopeful.
