If wishes were fishes the ocean would be full. My kingdom for a horse; had one when I was young and in my prime..then years have past by so fast, it isn't funny, McGee :thumbup:Sheep\ fold: The burro/horse is looking at the sheep, the sheep are looking at YOU. Ewe and Ewe. Naturally, the sheep cannot decide which pasture to be in, so they are hopping around the corners. More puns???

carriem 10-09-2012 04:09 PM

QNS--once again fun blocks with great stories. :)

janRN 10-09-2012 05:08 PM

Great job and great story QNS. Only other one I can come up with is "Ewe's not fat, ewe's fluffy"!

QuiltingNinaSue 10-09-2012 05:56 PM

How about, "Don't fence me in!".. "I'll jump over or climb under... or through the middle" attitude of an old ewe...I once owned.

dublb 10-09-2012 08:12 PM

Oh they are just way too cute, QNS!

QNSue...you really got going this week didn't you. Your blocks always have a story to tell. I'll bet you were a favorite teacher. (I think I remember you said you taught). Here are my blocks for the week.

QuiltingNinaSue 10-10-2012 06:38 AM

Love that combo, GG! Hope you are feeling better and I hope the vick's worked for you to stop your coughing. I was a middle school librarian for 37 years, so I taught administrators, teachers and students and parents what a librarian does and does not do. I even was known to prepare a meal for the entire staff for Thanksgiving!! Loved the junior high kids and their parents!! Miss them. Guess they trained me well.

QuiltE 10-10-2012 06:42 AM

I'm smiling as I type here ... what a contrast in the two pairs of blocks!!
And I love them both!!

QNSue ... I'm still going to nudge you that these stories need to be penned for your DGS! :) I couldn't help but smile with the sheep jumping around. Typical springy-legged woolly lambs! :) What FC and matching you did to get those fence rails lining up!

GGal ... Such a romantic look to those two! And Great FC to you too, for those centre flowers!

Oh QE so great to have you back with your commentary. And ITA on your blocks assessments! I know it's been said before but one of the great things about this show n tell is how different blocks can look. So for another look here's mine. Yes I did 6 blocks over the weekend!!

QuiltE 10-10-2012 07:15 AM

Thanks OKSGlad ... though I wish I was back in the Saddle and riding WITH all of you instead of tossing in my two cents worth!!

You've taken the look to a totally different dimension. Always like your folky blocks. No cow? :) And the 2nd one has my attention two. Perfect fabric choices for both, and especially the 2nd. They blend so well together, the fabric pattern size fits the parts so well with a wonderful zap in the blue contrast.

oksewglad 10-10-2012 07:21 AM

You're welcome QE. I opted for the sheep as it was obvious in the name. As this is from the same fabric thought it would blend in nicely and did you see the two cows peeking wishing they were front and center, and the B&W one walking off in a huff. Chanticleer is crowing!

QuiltE 10-10-2012 08:38 AM

Yes, they felt shunned, I'm sure!
Typical Holstein  ... in a huff if not front and centre at the shows!! :D

Fun blocks everyone. I had to redo Star of Hope a couple of times and it still looks like my small triangles are on wrong. Oh well, it is what it is!

QuiltE 10-10-2012 10:48 AM

OMG JanRN ... look at that exquisite quilting!!! Is that with your new Sweet 16?
Cute for those lil sheep and horses with oak leaves falling. How seasonal!! And romantic valentines and roses!

You're doing an awesome job with that wonderful new machine!

carriem 10-10-2012 04:04 PM

Ggal--pretty blocks. I love the sunflowers in the star of hope block...I've always liked sunflowers and butterflies, but haven't used either in a quilt yet.

OK--I see KT fabrics! Both blocks turned out great!

Jan--Your quilting finishes the blocks off so nicely...good fabric choices too!

Lots of pretty blocks and lots of conversation...Jan, love the quilting you've done on the blocks...I'm so jealous...I love to cut and piece but I'm a dud when it comes to quilting the blocks...all I can do it stitch in the ditch...Ggal..Your quilt is going to be spectacular...QNS, such cute blocks...welcome back to the "fold" Oksewglad, although you've never left...See what happens to this group when you're around QuiltE..everyone is so enthusiastic!!! I finished a block today and here it is....

QuiltE 10-10-2012 05:00 PM

***jumps in and steals Honcheys block**

With this yellow, it looks as though this block should be in my PC!
Great FC on that cowboy and such a nice contrast.

PS ... are you sayin' I am stirrin' the proverbial pot? :D

carriem 10-10-2012 05:00 PM

Honchey--good job with your block...great fussy cutting!

janRN 10-10-2012 05:05 PM

Thanks everyone for the compliments. I still don't quite get the hang of FMQ---I still have to draw lines and "aim" my quilting at them. Anne, I'm in agreement; I would make blocks and quilt tops all day long--hate to quilt them. I'm liking it now with the Sweet 16. I just need LOTS of practice. I love your block. It's so cheerful and perfectly done.

Honchey 10-10-2012 05:08 PM

QuiltE, You betcha!!!!

QuiltE 10-10-2012 05:14 PM

Honchey ....... hahahaha!!!!

JanRN ... if that's what you can do with very little practice, then OMG, you're going to be phenomenal with practice! There's nothing wrong with tracing your design on to follow!

JeanieG 10-10-2012 07:57 PM

Oh great blocks everyone. That quilting is just getting better and better Jan! Your quilt is going to be wonderful, as is everyones! I'm anxious to get home so I can work on my blocks and get caught up. It will be Friday or Saturday, depending on the weather. Lots of rain in the forecast here.

gardnergal970 10-11-2012 04:36 AM

Oksewglad...your fabric choices for both blocks really compliment one another. Glad you had some time in the sewing room between milking and running errands.
JanR....you've also captured a nice feeling with your fabric choices but you really sealed the deal with your quilting. I'm with Honchey, much rather cut and piece.
Honchey, your block literally comes to life with that bucking bronco. Perfect fussy cutting. I do like the quilt that you're donating. I too think that you'll get lots if tickets.

Wow what beautiful blocks this week. I spent one day last week sewing blocks into rows and trying to make sense of the fabric I have left. Thought I had been very productive ha ha, I only managed to get one block made.
So tomorrow I plan on getting the other block made for this week
It is wonderful to read the chatter and feel everyones enthusiasm for each other:thumbup:

I did however get this finished this week, it is sideways on the clothes line. I made it for my DS and gave it to him last night.
It was a kit I purchased from Keepsake Quilting
I will post a thread in the Pictures section but wanted to show my friends first, hope you like it

janRN 10-12-2012 04:11 AM

Mirab, I love your block and can't wait to see your finished quilt--it will be so pretty.
That quilt is awesome!! Did you do the quilting too? Yinz amaze me--where do you find time to make such beautiful quilts? Great job Mirab!

mirabelle 10-12-2012 04:27 AM

JanRN I did the quilting on this one, it is just a swirly design but to keep it sort of straight across the quilt, I sectioned the quilt top into rows with safety pins and did my own sort of edge to edge quilting, hope that makes sense.

gardnergal970 10-12-2012 05:03 AM

Mirabelle...what a beautiful quilt. I echo Jan...how do you get so much done? Most days I sew 5-6 hours and don't have too many finished quilts to show for it. Maybe that's my problem. I love the piecing but not the quilting so not to much gets actually finished. You are much more balanced and disciplined no doubt.

QuiltE 10-12-2012 05:23 AM

MiraB ... OMG that quilt is ever so lovely! Everytime we think you have shown us a beauty, the next one is even better! Great quilting ... what sort of a machine are you using?

And look at the FC and even stitching for that striped fabric! Your PC is going to be amazing when put together.

carriem 10-12-2012 07:00 AM

Mirabelle--your block is pretty...your quilt is going to be so elegant with those roses!! The other quilt you made is great...very masculine. What is the name of the pattern?

oksewglad 10-12-2012 08:07 AM

"Sigh" from Iowa Mirabelle and there's very little blue in it. Thanks for sharing your beautiful batik quilt.

dublb 10-12-2012 08:21 AM

Mirabelle-It's got such a soft, masculine look ta it. Beautiful!

JeanieG 10-12-2012 08:41 AM

Oh Mirabelle, that quilt for your son is wonderful! I'm sure he is so proud of it!

Carriem it is called Smokey River and was a kit from Keepsake Quilting. I don't normally buy kits, but this one just sort of grabbed me.

Ggal I am a typical Virgo, everything has to be organised, I spent years working in Administration and Finance and my daily planner saved my sanity:D

I always have a notebook on my desk and plan out what has to be accomplished, write it all down and cross it off when its done.
This week goes something like this
Piece PC blocks
Quilt Hearts charity quilt
Embroider teddy bear blocks
Sew binding on medallion quilt
Start making bags for Patchwork Club's Show n Tell
Piece Dinosaur quilt top
I am continually crossing off and adding stuff, when DH is at work I will sew for maybe 8 hours a day, when he is home it is a lot less. I have 8 charity quilts completed so far this year and hope to get 12 finished by the end of the year

Here is my last block for this week, crossed off my list and as soon as I post this will be sewing binding on while DH and I watch a movie.
Hope you like it

JeanieG 10-12-2012 09:18 PM

That is beautiful Mirabelle, as usual. I am soooo anxious to see your quilt all together. I know it is going to be spectacular!

mirabelle 10-12-2012 11:49 PM

Thank you JeanieG, the inspiration came from your Farmers Wife Sampler as I so enjoyed seeing your blocks every week. The idea of using just one fabric range appealed to me. As the end gets closer I am getting to see more of how the fabrics work together and I am loving it..

janRN 10-13-2012 04:33 AM

Love that block, Mirab. The red really adds a spark and your piecing is great, too.
