THE FWS PONY CLUB Quilt-Along Week 14 Crystal Star & Dakota Star Photo Page

Crystal Star was very easy for me..I didn't really have a good focus fabric in blue for the star center so I improvised. Dakota star was another story...I didn't like the allover print in the smaller triangles so I fussy cut the hats and I think, no, I know it's too too too....it's staying that way. I wanted the hats to go around every other color...didn't pay attention to the order and sewed them all wrong...Had to take the whole block apart and re-sew it. OHHHHHHHHHHH for the fussy cutting!!!!!!!!!!!!!
|
Love the wavy blue fabric in C Star-gives the block great movement, Anne. And the curve of those hats are place so they too make you look all around the block.
|
I like both of them a lot. Don't be so hard on yourself, Anne (I think we all are like that though). The colors are great and have great contrast; and of course you didn't lose one point!

I like your blocks Anne! And as Jan said, you didn't lose a point :D
Here are my blocks for this week: I see now I used the same blue fabric in both blocks so now it looks as if it's one block:cool: |

There is so much variety that gives such different looks to the blocks. I love what everyone has done this week.
I made these blocks several weeks apart and didn't realize, like Aneal that I used the same blue in both blocks. Oh well. |
WOW! What a great group of blocks. I can't wait to see what others have done.
|
Yuck, I didn't win in Bingo tonite.....I didn't have to cause I see a whole bunch of winners right here!!!
Ladies....are we good ??? Yeah...we are!!! Great blocks all of you... H. |

Honchey ... *pat* *pat* sorry about Bingo not being so kind to you! You already were a winner with those two blocks. Great colours in Crystal ... love the movement from the waves in the points! Dakota is not at all as terrible as you make out. We're hard on ourselves, when we have it in our minds, and it doesn't come together the way we wish!
Anael .,. As always, a perfect pair. Great colours together. QNSue ... Glad you found that rogue Dakota Star!! Now there's some starry stars. NIce tough to put the three way colour into Dakota. JanieW ... Great FC and colour coordination to his jeans and shirt. Dakota is ever so pretty! ... So who cares if you used the same fabrics? They'll likely be at opposite ends of the finished quilt. Everyone's work is so marvelous!! Me? After catching up, I was so relieved that this week's blocks were kinder and gentler. :) Though I did peak ahead to next week ... UGH! Curves!!!! :( **mutters to self** I will endure I will endure! |
Beautiful blocks! QNS I love your starry fabric :D And Janie and QuiltE, great fuzzy cutting!
Next week..........the curves are doable as long as you mark the 1/4" seam and sew slowly. And of course there's always applique instead of sewing :D |
Great blocks ladies-I love Wednesday mornings. So much to see.
Anael, your blocks are so soft and pretty. QNS, great color contrast in both blocks. Love all the stars. Janie, your blocks are so pretty and love the fussy cut center in the star. QE, you pick great color combos. |
Honchey...what a great job of fussy cutting. Sorry about the Froggie but you got it right in the end!
Anael...I love the blue you used...and then the green star really pops showing off the beautiful flower in the center! QNSue...all those stars! They work together wonderfully. JanieW...I looked close and saw the print in the Dakota Star. So fitting and shows off the main color so nicely and then to use that color for an accent in the other block. It works great. QuiltE...nice fussy cuttings. I'm sure glad you put the barbed wire in the center of the Dakota Star so no one gets caught on it. As a kid I hated getting through those barbed wire fences since I got caught more than once. Time to finish my morning coffee and get my blocks posted. The temp got down to 27 degrees F according to the radio report. I'll have to walk up to the garden and what survived. |

Here are my blocks for the week. I'll have to redo the Crystal Star since I mistakenly thought my templates would make it 8 1/2 finished block but alas it's 9 inches and cutting it down just wouldn't work. Both blocks were made with fabrics that I had continually passed over because I just didn't like them...didn't know what possessed me to bring them home...but they worked! I hope in my comments in another thread about fabric colors being pretty forgiving that I didn't sound like I had it all figured out. I get surprised very often. I just ripped apart a Carpenter's Star because it just didn't work like it should have.

I've never seen so many fabulous fabrics as are on this site this week! And their use is wonderful......I am almost embarrassed to show mine.....they seem "blah" next to all yours......I really, really want some new "cowboy" stuff...
|
Anael...I keep meaning to tell you that I love your "signature comment". I love cookies and that is so perfect....HeeHee. Makes me smile every time I read it. :)
|
Ggal, I love your blocks. Your colors are different but in a good way-they'll add a spark to your quilt.
Wendiq, great fussy cutting in the Crystal Star--your block sums up the Pony Quilt. Great blocks. |

Honchey, beautiful crystal star, love that plum color in the middle. Your hats look great!!! So cute! Great job on both! anael, that's so neat the way you combined the two blocks. The blue is gorgeous, nice job! QuiltingNinasue, what great fabrics you chose in CS and I love what you did with DS by using three colors. It gives it a whole different look, great job! JanieW, great fabric in each block. Love that shade of blue. Really like the subtle blue and white farm scene. Your work looks perfect on both!! QuiltE, ooh, both blocks look wonderful, very very nice contrast and colors. Great job as always! gardnergal970, the fabric in both blocks works wonderfully well. I've been surprised myself at how fabrics I don't like work and the ones I think will work don't. Great job on both! wendiq, your blocks are anything but "blah", they're lovely!! Very cute fabric and beautiful colors. Great job on both!! Well, here are mine. Talk about not knowing if fabrics will work or not. My CS is ok but not as good as I thought it would be. |

JanR...you really blinged us. That rose took my breath away and what better for a star than a nighttime sky. Termi..those bees look like they really would enjoy the sweet strawberries. Great fabric. And then the lines in the star are perfect. That's not easy so well done. Deranged...I like the blue and white. Well done. I agree with an earlier post...Wednesday's are wonderful for all of the beauty we get to share. I so appreciate being able to be a part of this group. |
Termi, I love the colors you're using. And you really nailed all those points!
DD-love the blue and white; reminds me of a delft tile. Are you hand-piecing these? Very pretty. |
thanks all for the compliments:D I wish I was doing novelty prints like most of you! they are just wonderful, it is always an adverture to see what yall will think up next!
Jan, this time I am machine sewing, today I finally finished A Beauty, that one I hand sewed and it is MUCH larger than all of the rest... sigh! I may have to redo it :D |

Do you take the RV everywhere?[/QUOTE

I'm late but please forgive me as I am truly having a bad week.
It all started with my offer of a piece of fabric to a friend so she could finish the final side border on a quilt (she was only short about 20 inches). Well she rang me to inform me she was buying the fabric from me and when I asked that she only use what she needed she told me that she had cut it all up. Guess how much fabric I gave her to cut her 20 odd inches from ------drum roll ------ 4 1/2 yards. I didn't cut a piece for her as it was a border print. So all down hill from there, I won't bore you with the details of yesterdays debacle. Here are my blocks for this week, hope you like them.. |
Mirabelle, Wow, those are beautiful! Nice points & lovely colors! I don't think that anyone is keeping track of how late we post our picts. Post 'em when ya can.
I'm so sorry that ya had a hard time w/your "friend.":( It hurts when we are taken advantage of.{Huggs} I can't believe that she did that to you. |
With a friend like that, you don't need any enemies, as the old song goes. Or at least that's what a group of guys sang to us in a hotel room where we attended the junior college choir meet in Davenport, Iowa, years ago.
Might have to do something about your loss of material...mmm, I do have some flower print that matches a "border" print, strips of flowers. Lovely blocks; I love them. |
