Week 2 is upon us and I'm hoping all of you are doing just fine...I will be shortening the title next week...There's just too much to read...

I was able to get Alabama finished ...just couldn't get to the "Tree" need to find some apples..

I'm a bit under the weather compliments of my grandchildren..sniffles & sore throat..3rd time this season. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Now for the letter...


Letters of the Week #2--Amyle Kafer, cont; Alberta & Florence Ashdow </pre>
Amyle's father's name was Noah and Noah's parents were Christian and MarthaKafer. Amyle wrote about wanting to show off "Bonnie" to all of his cousins atChristmas since his grandma always had a turkey Christmas. There is a 50/50chance that Martha Kafer was the grandmother he talked about, so I will tell youa little about her. In the 1870 and 1880 censuses she was listed as born in1852, which would make her 28 years old in the 1880 census. Not remarkable untilyou know that she was the mother of six children at the time, the oldest being12 years old! She went on to have a total of twelve children, so Amyle probablyhad a great many cousins to help him play with "Bonnie." Interestingly, in thelater censuses and on her tombstone her birth year is listed as 1848, so maybeshe wasn't such a child bride after all?? She died in 1922 and lived to seeAmyle grow to be a man.Alberta and Florence Ashdown, Chemung County, New York I can find very little about the Ashdown girls. Ruth Alberta Ashdown wasthe elder, and she was born in 1906. She is listed in the Geneva, New York, citydirectory in 1940 and she was single at the time.Florence was born in 1910. I found that she was a senior in the Southside HighSchool yearbook in Elmira, New York, in 1929. There is a picture included ofFlorence and she has short, thick dark brown hair. Next to her picture it says,"Florence attributes seem to be along the lines of the artistic, namely drawing,painting and writing." She was in the Honor Society and the Senior Play. </pre>

I love reading the story every week, there is such a rich history behind these pony club winners.

When you're pp Alabama, the measurements of parts J and K are not correct. The large stripe is 1/4" short.

Love the blocks; they all look so nice. Anne, PM me and I will share my apple orchard pieces with you...have three choices. Hope you are feeling better. Our barber told us the flu was going around, so we are staying home more this month.

Love the stories about the pony winners. Have Alabama done on the third try...made me think of the Western singing group and their song of the South: sweet potato pie and shut my mouth. Will try posting what I have later.

Rough trails ahead; according to dd, my Motherboard is dying in my computer. So BIL will loan me one if we can get everything transferred smoothly (I believe in Santa Claus, Easter bunny, etc.,) It wil be a couple of months before I can send dd $$$ to rebuild a computer for me. Then we will need transferr everything again... But will climb one hill at a time and ford the rivers as we come to them.

Back to the quilt room today and be sew happy!!!

Anael, I didn't have that problem....I guess for in the future we shoul check the pping measurements.

Ordered on line from www.equilters.com 12 fat quarters of "horses" printed fabric on sale; very happy with what I got from them. Engough for me and to share with my quilting friend, Susan J. Would share a picture, but still working on that problem. One step at a time, is OK as long as its forward and not slipping back two steps. :) Or three. Sigh!

This was the first block I had problems with. Maybe it's just me having done something wrong though I wouldn't know what.

I had to go to my DH's Uncle's funeral. Drove 10 hours to Houston on Tuesday. Funeral on Wednesday. Drove 5 hours to Ft Worth on Thursday. Grave site was at 2:00 on Friday then drove 5 hours back to Midland right after the grave site service. Sunday I did get Alabama done. I then decided that Apple Tree wouldn't look good in my patriotic fabric so I made a fast Arrowhead block. I'll take pictures & post 'em soon. With the funeral I didn't make practice blocks for my cousins quilt. It's not like I'm in any hurry to make blocks for his quilt. I only have 2 Postage Stamp blocks made for it. Every other block will be a Postage Stamp. These are my 'leader & ender' pieces.

Take a break, Bev-you've earned it. If I try to sew when I'm tired, I screw up more than usual! So sorry about DH's uncle.

I had that problem too. I wound up rotary cutting new pieces.

I changed by square, trial by errors on the first two, finally finished one. It still made me think of the Alabama singing group with their hit, Songs of the South,"sweet potato and shut my mouth." Like my best friend says, "Lord, put a hand over my mouth today before I say the wrong thing at the wrong time!"
