The FWS Pony Club Quilt-Along Week 4 "Basket of Flowers & Betty's Delight" Photo Page

Hello Ladies ... some of you will have seen Honchey's sister's post on the "gathering" thread we had prior to the launch of the Quilt-Along. Evidently she wasn't able to post the threads on Tuesday, and asked me to start them!!

Hope that you are ready so show your beauties this week, so that Honchey can ooooh and aaaaaah when she next checks in.

So, please do show your Eye Candy, Ladies ........ NOW!

QuiltE 01-24-2012 09:33 PM

P.S. ..... I can't wait to see what y'all have waiting for me when I come back to the Boards in the morning!
Good Night!

Oh Janie, that basket weave fabric is so awesome. I don't think I have ever seen anything like it. Both blocks are just beautiful!

Ladies, you never disappoint--all your blocks are beautiful. Posting these, have been doing them in between errands, mom's dr visits, etc.

QuiltE 01-25-2012 06:30 AM

Oooooooooooooooh ... Honchey will be very pleased with you Ladies, when she arrives!

JanieW ... you couldn't have found better fabric for that basket! I think you were holding out on us as to the potential of your stash! Well done at keeping all the grass clumps in the same direction. Betty would be delighted with that brown and blue combo!!

Leba ... Pretty in Pink!! Are they batiks? And another woven basket shows itself!

MiraBelle ... Yours are really coming together with such a tranquil and calming look. Lovely!!

JanRN ... and yet another with a woven basket, sitting in the flower garden! Great contrasts on those purples!! Wonder where the inspiration came form? :) I'm glad for you that despite the hectic pace, you allow yourself to slow down a little and take time for some sewing.

JanieW 01-25-2012 07:38 AM

Thanks for all the nice comments.

QuiltE... my stash has been a pleasant surprise. I did most of my grumbling/worrying about it before I got the book. There will be challenges ahead, but I'll hog tie that dogie when I get to him!!

Leba,

I love your dark pink fabric. Your blocks are really pretty.

mirabelle,

super work. The colours looks so good. Your blocks are always so well made and calming.

JanRN,

Wow, I am not a purple person at all and I love that block. You were clever how you made your flowers the same as the setting triangles. I like that look.

Great job everyone!

Janie

Great job everyone! Janie

JanieW ... and you may be pleasantly surprised as to what other candidates show themselves from the depths of your stash!! Hey ... what are you doing posting .... you're supposed to be on twin duty today, aren't you. Now this gets me thinking? Will this be one quilt? or split into twin quilts? :) Could be fun!

WendiQ ... a soft and fresh basket of posies ... then some bright sun to Delight Ms. Betty! Lovely in every way!

Tuesday is the day we ride herd on the twins. Wednesday is the day I procrastinate on housework by reading the quilting board.

I have no idea what this quilt will be. There is another little cowpoke on the way . This one will be born in real cowboy country so who knows, maybe he/she will want it someday. My oldest granddaughter is really into my quilting so she may decide it's hers. Whatever , they can fight over it after I'm gone, while I'm alive it's mine!

I'm sending more oohs and aaaaaahs your way ... and am still really attracted to the Flower Basket!

I keep looking at the basket and wondering what the writing says?

oksewglad 01-25-2012 04:04 PM

I was quick scrolling through the pics, not paying attention to posters (red faced, I am) and everyone has the basket spot on followed by the high contrasts in the Betty block (any one have "Betty Boop" fabric?). I was chuckling because I saw the paisley in mirabelle's and knew it was her blocks. Great blocks everyone!!

mirabelle 01-25-2012 07:41 PM

Everyones blocks look great. I am now going to hide out in my sewing room and try and get next week blocks done. Looking forward to seeing more beautiful blocks hint hint!!

That'd be a little of .... Make hay while the sun shines!! :)
No doubt, sewing is "good" for you while he's away ... helps to keep you busy and your mind focused on something.
I know you miss him, as we know absence makes the ♥ grow fonder! :)

mirabelle 01-26-2012 02:35 PM

Our DS still lives at home but he works long hours so I rarely see him, and he is every to cook for, keep it simple Mum. DH will be home for our anniversary next month so we might do something special, 34 years and counting.
I never would have attempted the FWS without the encouragement of members of this Board and also saddle up for the PC quilt, so thank you everyone. You are a wonderful group of people.

Hi Michelle,

FWS is Farmers Wife Sampler. It is Laurie Hird's first book. We are doing her second book which is the Farmers Wife Pony Club. You can get the patterns from her book which comes with a CD here:

http://www.thefarmerswifequilt.com/

Hope you join us!
Janie

Laurie Aaron Hird wrote 2 books. I'm not sure about the name of the first one except it had Farmers Wife Sampler in it's name. The Second book is Farmer's Wife Sampler Pony Club. Last year several of these board members did the FWS club & made some wonderful blocks & I'm sure wonderful quilts. (I haven't seen 'em.) I was very excited to join this second BOW club after I had seen some of the blocks in the first club.
Here's the thread that explains The FWS pony club.

I did another substitute block. I played with my fabrics & couldn't seem to make the "Basket of Flowers" work. So this is what I come up with instead.

Here's my "Betty's Delight."

Sew creative, dublb!

dublb 01-26-2012 05:03 PM

Thanks! I hope I don't have too many that I have to substitute. I really want to make the PC blocks!

KarenR 01-26-2012 05:15 PM

Oh Jeanie, the flowers are just perfect for you basket; great blue/cream combo on Betty's block. Looking at your block I think I've figured out a quick way to piece it. More later.

I tried to 'read' the fabric. It seems to be all letters. Somewhere it reads: Aunt Manon lived in my grandparents house by the ???One day, at dusk when I went to pick up......there I used the fabric so I don't know LOL......a huge flock of geese were landing at the riverbed.........
The fabric is from Benartex by Deborah Baronas, called Riverbed (that's all what I have so it might be called .......Riverbed)

MiraBelle ... Congratulations on your 34 years! And look at you ... not only FWS+PC, but also SBS on the go too! :)

DublB ... I even recognized Liberty before, I saw your tag on it!! What was wrong with your fabrics for the Basket of Flowers? And your Betty's is a Delight! :)

JeanieG ... look at that bright green grass of spring with the fresh picked posies! Great combo for Betty's Delight ... look at those mini-horseshoes!

Anael ... I bet Aunt Manon lived by the ....... Riverbed!!

JanieW 01-27-2012 07:19 AM

JeanieG,

Your blocks are so cheerful, a real treat on this overcast day. Your flowers in the basket are perfect.

In Betty's Delight, I like your teeny tiny horsehoes. The blue/ offwhite combo really works.

JeanieG 01-27-2012 11:17 AM

Thanks for the kind words everyone! It is so much fun to "get to do" these weekly blocks again. I really missed not having blocks to look forward to doing every week! Am I the only one that felt "something" was missing in my life. Does that sound weird or what! Maybe I just lead a boring life! (But I am NEVER bored.) LOL

QuiltingNinaSue 01-27-2012 11:37 AM

I am so behind in the Pony Blocks, but I finished the Apple Tree today will post later. I love all the great blocks everyone has posted. Hope I can do as well as what has been posted to date.

oksewglad 01-27-2012 01:12 PM

You know Jeanie whenever I finish a project I have this, "Now what am I going to do next?" feeling even when I have tons of UFO's. After finishing the barn DQ and the school fundraiser projects sighed, said to myself, "Now what?" Easy answer--PC! So QNinaSue you'll be just a step ahead of us (QE and me)! We're all on the trail together!
