let's see if I can get lucky & post:Square dance "honor your partner, gents to the center and ladies to the outside..." Of course, women have to have more than one pair of boots to choose from...cannot hold us to one choice...Mayflower was easy but to me the name should have been Square dancers.
Morning star with 48 'dog ears' and I had to double that with a topper light weight see-though yellow/white blender yellow. ;tis done. |
Too funny ... did you two conspire to do this block with the cowboy boots? :)
Wonder how many more cowboy boots will show up! I am sooooo far behind! I will be back here someday ... maybe like about October? |
No QuiltE....Great minds think alike...:) :) !!
I think all quilters have some sort of attention deficit as we always have many irons in the fire....whenever I see a new block or technique I have to try it out then I can only do so much before I get tired of doing it...then pick it up again when I get tired of the current project... I think I have adult ADHD..seriously!!! QNS..great blocks!!! why have you made 2 of the same block?? |

Here are my blocks for this week.
Honchey and QNS love your boot scottin boots, yes great minds do think alike. QNS I counted the pieces in Morning Star (I know stupid me) and there were 73 pieces (I think) Anael love your fussy cutting such a cute block |
Beautiful mirabelle! I didn't count the pieces in Morning Star but I didn't like making that block! I started, made it halfway and was so fed up with all those tiny pieces so it was laying around for some weeks :( Last week I finished it, just to get rid of it!
|
Honchey, the two boots represent red/white; red Indian and white man, notice the moccasins?? Mirabelle and Anael, great blocks. It was nice seeing yours, too, Honchey. You are following a lot of the fabric that Laura used, I have noticed. No Ice Cream block for me...it turned out rotten, so an extra boot block in its place.
|
Them boots are made for dancing!!! Beautiful shoes, Honchey and QNSUe.
Anael, your little cowpokes are soooo cute. Mirabelle, so nice that life has settled down a bit for you and your motivation is back. Such nice blocks! You all are very brave to do the Morning Star block. I wimped out. At this point pp holds little attraction for me and this one looked especially hard. |
Love the boot block. Have some fabric in my stash that would work. Is there a site to download or what is the name of the block
|
Oh these blocks are just too cute! I saw Honchey's boots and immediately thought "Do-see-do" and then to catch the others. Wonderful blocks on all counts as always!
|
Thank you all!

Janice Thompson, we are the group on the Farmers' wife Pony Club trail; doing two blocks a week and on our 60th block out of 90.
Laura Aaron B. wrote both the Farmer's Wife Sampler Quilt and FW pony club based on an old magazine published back in 1910 to 1939. First was a contest for the farmer's wives to write in if they would want their daughters to marry a farmer...and she published some of the letters, and created blocks for each of the 111 stories she told. Then she followed up with the second book based on the ponies children won from the Farmer's Wife Magazine...90 stories and 90 quilt blocks All of us participating have purchased the books...for the right to use the pattern for the blocks. Your Local Quilt Shop or Amazon lists her books. |
Hi, everyone. Sad to say I have not been participating in your Pony Club journey. I had all good intentions but somehow all the other projects I'm doing have gotten in the way. But I've been following along and love all your blocks. I'm kinda glad I'm not making this quilt right now because some of these blocks look so intimidating! I look forward to your weekly show of eye candy. Thanks!
|
Thanks for the info. I'll check Amazon for the books
|
Evie, jump in when you want too. Maude's Album is a good one to do, no Y seams. If you are looking, you can see we all substitute now and then, and you could too. Check out the www.quilterscape.com for free block ideas and join us on the active list again.
|
Correction on what I said above, Janice Thompson, the author is Laurie Aaron Hird for the Farmers Wife Sampler Quilt book and the Farmer's Wife Pony Club book. Sorry, I got distracted, and the correct info left what mind I have. lol!!
More riders we have on this journey, the merrily we roll along...if you have been among the missing and enjoying our virtual RV with everything, chatting with us about quilts and patterns, we have enjoyed your input...please, continue to do so when you can. |

Here are Morning Star and NOT Mayflower (I substituted a New York Beauty corner instead--no y seams for this pony rider)

I love your blocks, Jan. Well done.
|
Evie jump in any time. Even if ya don't want ta make any blocks we welcome all in-put. Join us in making blocks when ya can. I haven't been able ta make any blocks for about 3 months! I know that when I do, this group will be there for me & we'll be there for you also!
|
Everyone's blocks this week look great! As always the different fabrics really change the look of the blocks.
I just have to sew down binding on my current quilt and I think I will sneak in a couple PC blocks before finishing my next lap quilt (one my oldest dd started and has no intentions of ever finishing). |
Evie & Janice- Welcome & jump in any time. Even if ya don't want ta make any blocks we welcome all in-put. Join us in making blocks when ya can. I haven't been able ta make any blocks for about 3 months! I know that when I do, this group will be there for me & we'll be there for yoa'll also!
Jan - Such lovely blocks! Nice sub! (Did I tell ya'll that blue is my favorite color????) |
Jan you have such lovely shades of blue in your two blocks.
So nice to hear from others on the ride.:) |
Beautiful blocks Jan! I love the fabric in Morning Star.
|
Just finished looking at the pics-you guys are good. I think Morning Star is my favorite block-would love to see a whole quilt made from this block (not by me though LOL).
Thank you for all the compliments. Sometimes quilting is a solitary hobby; it's nice to hear others' opinions and actually "talk" to other quilters and see how people interpret patterns differently. Can you tell I've missed yinz?? |
We have missed you, JanRN...welcome back into the action. And we do love to hear from all of you, even if you are not active here at the moment...

Please note: do not...I said do not trim the corners of the 48 little triangles while watching the Olympics..especially when we're winning...you will lose all the little corners completely....arghhhhh! 3 days= one completed Morning Star!!!!!
|
Oh Anne, You'll always remember the 2012 Olympics when ya see this quilt! :)
We misses ya too Jan. :) |
Love the blue paisley--will add an interesting color block to your quilt Anne!
|
Honchey...3 days turned out okay because your block is beautiful. I've also been enjoying the Olympics.
|
Great blocks everyone. I have Mayflower done, but need to get the other one put together.

I choose two subs for this week. I went to Quilters Cache and used Bouncing Betty and American Charmer.
|
Beautiful blocks. Love the colors you used.
|
Ggal, great blocks. I've been making my subs from Quilters Cache, too. I've had 2 come out 1/2" too small. Have you had this happen? I'm just going to add a border so they're still usable. I don't think I screwed up (well, maybe) because I paper pieced them; they just came out small.
|
Oh GG they are beautiful!!!!! Perfect subs!

I've only used patterns that I could use my templates for and they sized out okay. For now, I've sworn off pp and y seams.
|
Very appropriate subs, GGal. Deb Watkins on another thread also mentioned that QCache often times are a little off and to use that elusive scant 1/4" seam allowance:eek:
|
Thanks Jeanie-I use IE but I didn't measure the 1" square; I just started sewing. I'll definitely check the next one. I'm not sure how to do a scant 1/4" seam when pp, OKsewglad but I'll also keep that in mind. You guys are so helpful-thank you!
|
GGal--pretty blocks. I can't wait to see them IRL...you are taking them to the retreat right?? Just over a month away!! YAY!
