Ok lets get the 'eye' candy going here... and Summer's Dream.

QuiltE 10-02-2012 06:05 PM

As always a nice pair, QNSue ... great contrasts in the first and the subtlety of the 2nd makes for a great block too!

oksewglad 10-02-2012 06:25 PM

I;m seeing stars QNS. Sugar Bowl looks like one not to PP!

mirabelle 10-02-2012 10:15 PM

Lovely blocks as always QNS

carriem 10-03-2012 04:50 AM

QNS--Great job on your blocks. I really like the star fabric in SB.

Here are mine for the week. QNS, nice job on the blocks. I don't remember that you've ever used black before but it's a very nice touch and your plaids look great with it.

carriem 10-03-2012 05:05 AM

Ggal...you did a great job on your blocks. The cream fabric in the big triangles of SD really jump out at me...like it!

QuiltE 10-03-2012 06:00 AM

GGal ... both are lovely, but the brown one really pulls me in! The light brown with the scattered flowers, I think I have the same but in a tan with blue and rust flowers.

QuiltingNinaSue 10-03-2012 06:53 AM

Yep, my sugar lump bowl is chipped and off side; blue for a little boy...at four or five years of age, he ain't goin' judge whether it is pp or not. just use the templates marked and hope for the best. No, GG, I did not use black, its dark blue starry skies, the camera did not really show the color true. Anyone remember the sugar lumps? An old English saying, "One lump or two, dear?" at tea time.

...and the German that said nein! And had a very sweet cup of tea. Still a very pretty block, QNS.

Great blocks, everyone. I should have read the title of this block instead of just looking at the picture. I thought it was a basket.

carriem 10-03-2012 02:06 PM

Jan--I went for basket too...I did read the title, but a basket of flowers fit my fabric better. Your blocks look great. Good contrast in both. The little green triangles really pop!

My blocks are done, just need to get pictures...to be posted shortly.

dublb 10-03-2012 02:43 PM

Oh, oh, oh!!!!! They are wonderful blocks. Ya'll have done it again.

Here are my blocks...went together pretty quickly. Would have gotten more done if I hadn't been on the phone for almost 2 hrs talking with a friend I haven't talked to for years. It was good to catch up and more time to sew tomorrow...YAY!

All very pretty fabric combos..I finally got the Sugar Bowl done...The dots drove me crazy!!!!

carriem 10-03-2012 04:10 PM

Honchey--what fun fabrics! I would think the wavy lines would drive one a little crazy too. :)

QuiltingNinaSue 10-03-2012 04:47 PM

Love all the blocks for the week; Anne, I love your fabric the most!! It is so much fun and makes the eye do a happy dance. Our group may be small, but very supportive every week!! 'Course others have to come in and tell us that a block ain't perfect...but we all failed to notice anything wrong...we loved it without noticing its flaws. We soon will have some very lovely quilts!!.

Honchey 10-03-2012 05:00 PM

Yeah! I hear ya QNS....Some just don't have what we have as a group...enduring...so very special....

janRN 10-03-2012 05:08 PM

Great blocks, Carriem & Anne. I'm glad I wasn't the only one who saw a basket. Anne, how did you get those dots to line up so perfectly??? Wow!

dublb 10-03-2012 05:24 PM

Oh my goodness, Anne! Those dots would have driven me a bit on the crazy side too! Lovely block!

dublb 10-03-2012 05:27 PM

I really have enjoyed the camaraderie on this trail. It will be a while before I finish this but it is comfortin' ta know that ya'll will be watchin' as I finish. Ya'll rock.

Honchey 10-03-2012 05:30 PM

It isn't easy Jan...Pinned the dots within the lines looking thru both up towards a bright lamp....then pinning along the sewing line..remove the all the pins except the two at the 2 end points along the sewing line..flip the fabric to the correct position...poke the two pins that are still in the fabric thru to the paper. stitch...Did you get it :) !!!!

JeanieG 10-03-2012 07:29 PM

Love all the blocks!. I'm still plugging along with last weeks blocks. Guess I better get my butt in gear!!!

What wonderful eye candy this week, same block yet so very different each and every one of them. Just finished my two, it is 9pm here and I was determined to get them done today.

Tomorrow my DD and I are going to a Craft Fair (promise not to buy too much fabric:p:p), then home to have Chinese dinner with DS, just to end the day on a high.

QuiltingNinaSue 10-04-2012 03:59 AM

Love your blocks, Mirabelle, you quilt will be a lovely one!! Enjoy the Craft show for me too; cannot go for the American Quilt Show in Des Moines this year, on right now...no $$$ to go. Things need done on the home front.

janRN 10-04-2012 04:11 AM

Thanks, Anne--got it (and am dizzy just picturing you looking up, through, across, around.....) LOL.
Mirab, pretty pretty!!
Sounds like we have a fun day planned for today. I'm off on a FART, hope to find a few Christmas prints to make a few more Rosie blocks; I really don't need anything so probably won't buy much (can you see the sarcasm here????) I figure winter is coming and I need to stock up in case I get snowed in (highly unlikely since I live in the city) but you know, it's better to plan ahead. I'm like a squirrel stockpiling nuts (or I'm just nuts). Have fun everyone!

gardnergal970 10-04-2012 04:32 AM

Honchey...I think your block takes the cake this week! So fun. Were you thinking of breach balls on the ocean? Carriem, JanR, and Mirabelle...nothing against your blocks...they are well done and great eye candy but....I hope you know what I mean.
Jan, have a fun FART. I was at my LQS in Monday to pick up a book I had ordered and got a layer cake and some FQ's but the signed book wasn't in after all. On my...I'll just have to go again next week and Carrie, the entire line...41 bolts of KT fabric is in.

mirabelle 10-04-2012 04:38 AM

JanRN I know what you mean about stocking up, this is the time of the year that we start preparing for our wet season. As soon as it starts to rain here the supermarkets are crazy places to be, the first few years we were here I didn't pay much attention but when we were flooded in for 10 days and couldn't get out of our house I quickly learned. While DH was home I stocked up on all the dry goods so now I just have to replace what I use.

dublb 10-04-2012 09:36 AM

Mirabelle - They are lovely! Boy are ya gonna have a great time tamorrow. (I guess it's taday for ya now.:) )

Honchey 10-04-2012 10:14 AM

Ggal, I have totes and boxes of scraps and after using most of the western fabric I acquired for this journey the scrap bin is where I've been picking my fabric for the blocks...I'm also participating in a couple of 1-1/2" & 2-1/2" swaps and when I come across some piece that calls to me...that's what I use...I loved Dots (candy) as a kid and the colorful dots reminded me of them...The blue waves was next to the dots in the bin..I then said to myself "this is it"...

deranged_damsel 10-04-2012 02:06 PM

All of you ladies AMAZE me :D :D :D

Keep up the good work ;)

janRN 10-04-2012 05:06 PM

How are you feeling, DD? Hope you're better and back to sewing.

dublb 10-04-2012 05:13 PM

Yes DD how are ya? We have all been prayin' for ya.

QuiltE 10-04-2012 09:11 PM

Looks like you Chatty Cathies are on a Sugar High from these sugar bowls!

And some pretty grand ones there are!

JanRN ... a tisket a tasket, I like your sugar basket! Wonderful contrasts on both blocks. And ever so perfectly pieced! Did you get all stocked up for winter snow days? :D

CarrieM ... catching up with old friends is always more important than stitching! I like the contrasts in the difference of the two blocks ... subtle contrasts to more drama.

Honchey ... leave it to you to master FC the dots and get it all ever so straight! Great contrast with the swirly blue. Me thinks it may be a batik? OMG, you have your western fabrics pretty much used up? Gosh, that wasn't very good planning!!!!!!!!!! :D

JeanieG ... hahahaha! and you're plugging along? Then there's those of us out in the dust!

MiraB ... another beautiful pair. Is the tan with the blue star a new entry? Works great with your fabrics. Wonder? Hope your Craft Fair FART with your DD was a success. Take Note! Igot the DD right, not DH!! :D And YIKES!!! You were flooded in for ten days? and we thought our snowstorms were terrible. Nothing like that!!! :)

DDamsel ... and a howdy to you Missy! Sure hope you are doing what needs to be done, and a-sittin' and a-stitchin' and a-gettin' better!!

mirabelle 10-04-2012 10:15 PM

QuiltE our home is what is called highset or elevated, fourteen steps from the ground up and the water was up to the fourth step. Our yard also slopes down towards the front fence and it was about 4 foot at the front of the yard and about 3 feet at the back. We were marooned on our own little Island:D
I am just home from the Craft Fair and bought a few patterns (that's ok right) a couple of embroidery designs CD's (that's also alright):D and not one piece of fabric:eek: There were no specials and with FQ's at $5 each I wasn't buying. That is about the standard price for them over here.

QuiltE 10-05-2012 12:40 PM

MiraB ... don't feel bad as that's the standard FQ price here, too! Sometimes less but if it's nice and what you really want, you can count it's the higher end. :( While no fabrics, glad that you helped the economy with some pattern and embroidery acquisitions!!

With water aka floods like that, it's understandable why your home is on stilts! :)
I bet at times you start to consider building an ark.
Maybe this year, you should have some fun with that and make an ark quilt? :)

Now the question I am wondering ... is this a riverbed that floods?
or merely monsoonal rains that just don't drain away from you?

mirabelle 10-05-2012 04:54 PM

QuiltE I am only about 10 miles from the Coast, and the river systems which feed out to the ocean are effected by high tides. When we had the floods in 2009 we had 80 inches of rain in 40 days, yes it rained for 40 days and 40 nights and the final nail in the coffin was a king tide(which is higher than normal) which flooded our river systems and the rivers broke their banks. When we bought our house we did get the flood map of the town to ensure we were out of the flooded areas and the owners told us we would only get about 6 inches of water under the house so that sealed the deal for us.
This was called a "hundred year flood" so once in a lifetime all the stars and planets aligned for this disaster to happen.

Yes I have used the tan star fabric before, I do not have much fabric left to choices are becoming limited.

QuiltE 10-05-2012 05:57 PM

Thanks MiraB ... Once again, this is amazing what we learn about other parts of the world!

They use the same 100 yr reference here ... when constructing storm measures here, then every once awhile we get some close together events and everyone laughs, yea right as though it'll wait 200 or 300 yrs! Thankfully we don;t see the same flooding as you deal with.

Let's hope that this year is not one of those high tide and heavy rain seasons for you!

deranged_damsel 10-06-2012 04:03 PM

Thanks ALL I am feeling quite a bit better today, it is difficult to hold this girl down! :D I did make some progress on my PC blocks WooHoo!

WOW Mirabelle! good thing you didnt get washed away!
