 These are very pretty blocks!! Your colors are great & nice points!

QuiltE 01-31-2012 05:11 PM

Those are terrific OKSGlad ... pointy and perfectly coordinated on the fabrics!!!
You're really flying along there ... And to think you weren't going to do the PC. Imagine!!! :)

oksewglad 01-31-2012 05:16 PM

Notice the corner blocks on the BF--I like to go to the scrap box before cutting into a big hunk of fabric. I made my HST's, then went to cut my squares. I was 1-1 1/2" block short from the only scrap I had, so I made lemonade and found a close relative. Such is life.

Nothing wrong with that ... totally looks as though it was meant to be in the master plan!
Did you manage to save your memory block from the fabric? Though knowing you, it won't be postage stamps but teeny-weeny HST's! :)

Really like your blocks, oksewglad.

The cowboy boots and horses are from fabric that I received in the mail from my best friend, so felt it appropriate to use it this week. Thanks, Bev!

OMG JanieW ... look at all those fussy cut giddy-ups! A perfect blend with that beige fabric.
And great cowboy boots .... looks like there's some turquoise boots coming in a future block!

How nice of your Best of All Best Friend to have a place in these two blocks ... hope you sent her a picture?
Hey ......... maybe you could lasso her in and get her to saddle up with this motley crew for some good ol' cowboy fun?

dublb 01-31-2012 05:57 PM

Lovely blocks. As another Bev I think that those boots & horses are Great! I agree with QuiltE lasso her!

Beautiful blocks-as usual-you guys. Love the fabric in both. Here are mine. I know I lopped off a couple of points in Best of All but my blocks are square. In the pic they look crooked-sort of "fish eye" effect from camera. Thanks for all the inspiration!

janRN 01-31-2012 06:26 PM

PS: QuiltE, anything look familiar? Love those ducks or are they geese or swans???

QuiltE 01-31-2012 06:29 PM

Oh JanRN ... great colours in both those blocks. Nice and bright and cheery.
The brown and orange set off those geese pretty nice and help make them pop their beaks right out at us.
Well done!!!!!!!!
I wonder where you got that fabric? *giggles*

ha! ... you posted while I was typing!!!
Geese ...

oksewglad 01-31-2012 06:39 PM

Janie--the horse heads fit perfectly in those tiny squares! The red plaid complements the boots too.
Jan--I noticed the geese block first; color placement in the "bear paw" corners remind me of geese feet.
Great job, you two.

dublb 01-31-2012 07:49 PM

Jan! Those are beautiful! I had ta look very close to see any points missing. I only saw 'em 'cause ya said something about it. SHHHHHH :) Don't worry about it. They are lovely!

Honchey 01-31-2012 08:46 PM

Oh Boy, I got tired of the covered wagon!!! sitting out there all by myself...I miss you cowpokes!!!
I hope my photo goes thru!!! Thanks Elaine for the settings reminder. I had to do something with a simple text box instead of whatever it was set as. Wish me luck!!!

dublb 01-31-2012 09:36 PM

Love those horses & horseshoes!

It must've been those lucky horseshoes! Sweet FC horses in the center.

Oh what fun to see all the beautiful blocks for this week. You guys outdid yourselves that is for sure. I got Best of All cut out, and am working on Best Friend. Even had to run to JoAnns today to get some charcoal grey fabric for Best of All.

Anael 01-31-2012 11:14 PM

It's great to see all those beautiful blocks. I finished Best of All and will work on Best Friend today.

Beautiful blocks as always ladies, here are mine for this week.

mirabelle 02-01-2012 02:27 AM

I think I will have to work out how to resize my blocks, they look huge...

I can't figure out how to do that either.... I'm not scanning just using the camera cause when the cp went the wireless went with it and I tried to restore and that didn't work because I had to download drivers....what a mess. I'm just so glad to be able to communicate!!!

Leba 02-01-2012 05:43 AM

JanieW – I like your choice in fabric. It must have taken you a long time to put these blocks together. I love your fancy cut and your placement of fabric.
<O:p</O:p

JanRN – As usual your blocks are a reflection of perfection and your color choices are vibrant and sooo pleasing to the eye. Love the geese.
<O:p</O:p

Mirabelle – I love everything you post. Love the fabric and the roses.

<O:p</O:p
Honchey -The horses you choose to place on your block are the best. It always reminds me of the gift that horses give to us by just being.<O:p</O:p

janRN 02-01-2012 05:43 AM

Ooh, I love looking at these blocks first thing in the morning. They are all so beautiful and done with all the different fabrics make them look like different blocks. Love them all.

Leba 02-01-2012 05:46 AM

Falling behind on my blocks for this week but I love seeing everyone’s work. It gives me ideas and inspiration.<O:p</O:p

Such beautiful blocks! I remember that Laurie said in one of her books that there needs to be a "muddy" block so that others will really be set off. (The colors aren't true so they do look better in person.) Well, here's my contribution and only hope that there aren't too many more since I'm using my stash ONLY. I have very little room to store fabric so I'm trying to keep ahead of the build up.

Honchey 02-01-2012 07:03 AM

Gardnergal970, Laurie is so right... What everyone has to remember is that the colors /fabrics have to be pleasing to the sewer. I am using alot of the fabrics that I have from the first FWS quilt. The only other fabric I'm using are the pieces I've swapped or the specialty pieces/horses and yes I will be sending pieces of the fabric used in Maud's Album Quilt to whoever wants it or until it runs out. I have about 3 yards of it. just pm me your address....I will be home this weekend so don't send it until Monday the 6th. Anne

<!--[if gte mso 9]><xml> <w:WordDocument> <w:View>Normal</w:View> <w:Zoom>0</w:Zoom> <w:DoNotOptimizeForBrowser/> </w:WordDocument> </xml><![endif]--> Mirabelle…. Your blocks are their usual lovely selves. Love those roses.

JanRN…. Good stuff. I thought your choice of the orange was spot on as it goes so well with the geese/duck/swan/whatever beaks. I am colour co ordinated challenged so I’m always impressed when others do it so well.

Honchey…. Welcome back. We missed you. I am envious of your cute centre. I just loved the mare and colt. Lovely. The horseshoes are a nice touch.

Gardnergal…. You are another one whose blocks I look forward to seeing as I love your colour choices. Your alleged muddy one looks good to me and the bright cheery colours in the other block are fantastic.

QuiltE and Bev,

I would love to have my friend Bev along for the ride, but I’d need a really long lariat to lasso her. We live about 1200kms apart. Her plate is pretty full right now, so I’m not going to nag her. She’s with us in spirit for now.

OK....Here are my two......not near as cute as what I am seeing, but they are what they are.....:)

wendiq 02-01-2012 08:23 AM

Honchey......LOVE the horses in the center and the horseshoe fabric is great! You do inspire me.....:)

wendiq 02-01-2012 08:25 AM

Edited to address this to OKSEWGLAD>>>>

I would never have noticed the different corners....very clever. Thanks for pointing that out as it is a good technique to remember if ever needed....:)

janRN 02-01-2012 08:56 AM

Wendiq, I love your blocks and think they're really cute! I love how you fussy cut your fabric. Are you paper piecing? I can paper piece and I can fussy cut but can't do both at the same time--I'm not sure where things will end up LOL. You did a great job.

I don't know why you don't think they're cute. I like them a lot. The little girl really draws the eye with the twinkle she has in her's. Your fussy cutting really is outstanding.

oksewglad 02-01-2012 09:22 AM

Oh these are so wonderfully different!
mirabelle--your colors are spectacular and the rose placement so clever. The designer of your fabric should really get a look at your quilt when it is finished--you show it off well
Ggal-I love the muddy block comment you made, and the block too-very well coordinated and then the bright blue comes up and really shows us how different that block can look with fabric choices.
wendiq- your characters are so sweet looking, that little girl centered is so precious and the fabric placements are spot on.

In regards to fabric choices; I am enjoying picking out the fabric in this sew along over the FWS. Why because I really like my fabrics for the PC. Many of the CW fabrics in the FWS have been gained through swaps, sight unseen and are not necessarily pieces I would've bought and are not my favorites. Is this what is holding me back?

Oksewglad: I have fabric I don't like too but I'm finding some that I really like don't fit well together so bringing in some of the "don't likes" can give good results. I try to concentrate on values more than colors but do I ever have a lot to learn! You will probably surprise yourself if you just close your eyes and go for it.

oksewglad 02-01-2012 10:04 AM

I'm laughing here as I have been picking fabrics like you for so long. I do not shrink from using fabrics I have had for 30 years with fabrics I bought yesterday. Gradually I am using up my 30 year fabric stash lol. This method makes for a great lesson in choosing colors.

JanieW 02-01-2012 10:11 AM

wendiq,
what's not to like? Yours are definitely cute. The centre in Best of All is adorable. The tan fabric matches the rope perfectly.

The ponies in Best Friend look so playful with the little guy trying to tame him. I love that fabric.

Great points, great construction and great colors.
