Off to work up another 12 dozen ears of corn like last Thursday...hope it goes as quickly and nicely as last week. Love my sweet corn from Iowa. Bf picked up her 25 dozen more yesterday like she did last Wednesday...and talked to her two dd and they will get some of that corn as well. She is also helping the DM dd with school supplies for the three adopted boys, plus her dgd in her sophomore year.

Hope everything went well with OKsewGlad last night in her teaching of judging to the four H group..may they do well at State.

Yes, Anael, love those pictures of the SEW GRANDs; before you know it, they will be celebrating their first birthdays. Time passes on soooo quickly...

Just flipped the calendar to August! Hard to believe this year is slipping by so fast. I took out my Jamestown quilt and working on joining the rows yesterday. I had been pretty satisfied with the points, etc but this A4A class has really raised my awareness as well as my ability to get them all better. This quilting craft has so much to teach me!!!....and I love it. I haven't decided on my colors for the SYE yet. I still have half of my PC blocks and the bonus blocks to do too. They just haven't grabbed my attention since I got the first one done.
QuiltE...I'm glad that Honchey has lassoed you in. It gets pretty quiet around here when you're gone but I'm certain that you enjoy what you do in the fall and give it your all.
Honchey...I echo Jan. Thanks for all that you do to keep us together. This is such a fun group!

Cannot picture Honchey with a whip; or a rolling pin. Or a lasso. She has raised her family and babysitting grand kids, so she probably has some firm rules but with us she does not have to worry...we have all raised our own families as well. Or the just the dh and their can be the biggest kid of all...:D

Then there are some that exceed themselves, like OKsewGlad couple, that helps out others to learn farming ways. If you want to thank who taught you to read, thank a teacher and your parents. But if you want to thank those who grow your dairy, grains and meats, thank a farmer.

I don't know how long we will see a sight like this, 1/3 of the cattle is kept inside and that will be more in future.

There is only so much land; and it will get higher and higher as it sells. So few will be able to 'graze' their livestock in pastures because of the value of the land. Supply and demand; the heart of any economy.

If the American could unite and avoid all gas stations just one day, gas would decrease in price. Not to the seventeen and twenty-five cents like when I started to work, but well under the two dollar mark.

As big farming companies buy up the land and gain control, prices will raise higher. Average young farmer-to-be has to have help from parents who farm...and in the know on who has the $$$$$$$$$$$$$. One young man, graduating from Ag college, put himself in debt for six hundred thousand dollars to start a hog confinement business. Wonder how long it will take to clear his debt...:( wonder if his grandchildren will be able to pay it off.

According to what I read on the internet the costs to keep the farm operating are higher than the price of milk. As a result of that the farmers expand the farm, intensify production and keep the cows inside. This doesn't work but they still do it. This is going on in the North-Western part of Europe.
When I was young lots of young farmers went abroad (Canada, Australia) to start a farm there. Most of them didn't come back.
