The FWS Pony Club wk 44 Verna Belle's Favorite & Village School House Photo Page

Week 44 is here and our journey is coming to it's end....for some anyway...I'll be picking up the rear with a few still behind...you know who you are :)...

Anyone have some eye candy to show????

I guess I'll go first. I substituted for both of these blocks. Verna's wasn't my favorite and the schoolhouse in the book had y seams. I believe in "no stress quilting" and y seams give me stress.

JeanieG 11-06-2012 06:37 PM

I like your substitutions Jan. The flower one is really pretty, and of course your quilting is wonderful too!

Ok I did not sub here...looked like a pizza sliced up to me....and Village school house:

Going to the 'dogs' in their old school house is the reason why the village built the new school house with another couple of towns together...

JeanieG 11-06-2012 08:26 PM

Oh QNS, those are both great! I just love your rendition of the school house going to the dogs! Hmm, that sky looks familiar!!!

dublb 11-06-2012 09:42 PM

Oh Jan & QNS those are sooooo purdy!

Jan your blocks are so pretty and your quilting is wonderful:thumbup::thumbup:

QNS as always your stories make me smile, I love the fabric you have used in VB.

Here are mine for this week, I substituted the school house and made the tulip block for Anael, hope you like them.

Psst are the quilt police still up:D I have my top together but may unpickand change my final border, will sleep on it. No sneek peeks yet:shock:

mirabelle 11-07-2012 04:08 AM

The tulip block looks dirty, its not. I used two different floral prints, one with a cream background, the other with a beige background. I was having trouble finding fabric pieces big enough for my last few blocks, I truly was down to the scraps

janRN 11-07-2012 05:34 AM

Wow-great blocks. QNS I love the fabric in Verna's--looks like it's swirling; and that dog in the door is too cute!
Mirab, Anael will love her tulips--so pretty. I know what you mean about finding fabric for those last few blocks. I bought 3 yards of white-on-white and all I have left is a strip about 3" wide and 15" long.
Hard to believe the end is in sight!

Great blocks this week!

I did Verna Belle, but since I don't need all the blocks opted not to make the School House.

deranged_damsel 11-07-2012 12:11 PM

Honchey...a big welcome back! I see the snow is coming down for both you and Jan. Stay warm.
Jan...I love how you've quilted your blocks. I saw your Steelers quilt and am so glad that you're getting a little more comfortable with your new toy What fun you must be having.
QNS...Your little puppy looks so "knowledgeable" from his time at school.:o And the pony peaking through...I almost missed him. I like you you altered the color placement around the points. Makes perfect sense and adds to the radiating lines of the star. Beautiful.
Mirabelle...your scraps are lasting. Nice not to have too much left over.
Carrie...nice balance in your block.
Here are mine. I didn't bail on Verna Belle. After doing the Tumbling Block, I was feeling a little daring and found it pretty easy. My school house door doesn't show up well but you can see the lights are on in the windows!

janRN 11-07-2012 02:40 PM

I love both blocks, Ggal, but I'm really drawn to your School House. You're right--it looks like lights in the windows. Very nice blocks. (And you are braver than me to do Verna LOL).

QuiltingNinaSue 11-07-2012 04:58 PM

Neat and well done blocks GG; yes, Jeanie the background in VSH may look familiar...a wonderful PC rider sent it to me....I wonder who that was??? It was so much fun exchanging and sending fabric pieces!!

Goodness, I have a whole big box of scraps left...but I know who is getting every piece that will put it to good use... but has anyone heard from OksewGlad lately?? QuiltE is off on her trip for two weeks...itis getting to be that busy time of the year, I guess.

dublb 11-07-2012 05:54 PM

When I was lookin' thru the book I had decided that I didn't like Verna, but ya'll have changed my mind. I will do this block after all. :)
I'm goin' on another retreat tamarrow & won't be back till Mon or Tues. (I'll probably be drivin' all day Mon.)

JeanieG 11-07-2012 07:02 PM

Have a wonderful time at your retreat dublb! We will miss you!

dublb 11-07-2012 07:13 PM

Aww, Thanks. I might be able ta git online while there. We were just told they might have it. I'm gonna take my computer just in case. (Of course I might not even crack it open. :) )

mirabelle 11-07-2012 07:44 PM

Have fun on the retreat Bev, hope you get lots accomplished

dublb 11-07-2012 08:42 PM

I'm thinkin' that I might git a few things done for Project Linus. Then a I hope ta git caught up on a few other things so that I can make my bonus blocks when I git back home. I've got the fabric & I got a plan. :)

carriem 11-09-2012 06:43 AM

Ggal--I really like your blocks...great contrast and love the "lights shining". :)

dublb--Have a great time at your retreat! I don't have another one until March. I do have a day planned the end of November who is taking some time off work, so that will be nice.

I am very excited to report that I have my fabrics for my bonus blocks AND have chosen the block!! I can't wait to get started next week. :)

oksewglad 11-09-2012 08:29 AM

Here I am, QNS and all!!! Nice to be missed. I didn't look for the thread until today so haven't gotten any updates.
Jan--the subs are great and your quilting shows the blocks off.
QNS--fabric usage is so unique. Lovely fabrics with the horse peeking through. I'm wondering--who let the dogs out?
mirabelle--even when you are down to the last scraps you still have beautiful blocks--greens add a new color dimension to your quilt and a lovely tulip!
carrie-nice balance of color in VernaB
Ggal--equally balanced VernaB in the soft pinks. Do I detect lights on in the early morning at country school--teacher's getting the fire ready with the soft lights of kerosene lanterns? Lovely blue sky
:)

Thank you Mirabelle for the lovely tulips!

The schoolhouse block was one of the first blocks I made but forgot to post it here.So here it is :D

carriem 11-14-2012 04:24 AM

WOW Anael...great use of the fabrics...love the "shingles". :)

janRN 11-14-2012 05:21 AM

I love that Anael! You are so clever in choice of fabrics. Great block.

Anael 11-14-2012 06:15 AM

Thank you both :D

gardnergal970 11-14-2012 06:28 AM

Oksewglad...so you recognized the sky? It just seemed to fit this block. Thanks.
Anael...you really used brick and mortar to build your school house! Great job.

Anael 11-14-2012 09:13 AM

I think I shouldn't have quited school early. The bricks aren't lined up :D

QuiltingNinaSue 11-14-2012 10:17 AM

Hey, Anael, its an old village school house with character...looks very real the way you did it...accidentally on purpose!! Perfect!!

dublb 11-14-2012 11:12 AM

It looks great Anael! I like the "off" bricks. They look like the schoolhouse had, had some renovations.

I've had the last two weeks finished for a couple of weeks now. Finally decided I needed to get them posted! Here are my Week 44 blocks.

gardnergal970 12-13-2012 03:21 PM

Good job Jeanie.

dublb 12-13-2012 08:20 PM

I really like 'em Jeanie! They are so perfect for your quilt.

Verna Belle not only had her Favourite Quilt Block ... she also had her favourite Canada Goose! :)

(and it lookslike the photographer was on a bit of a tilt during this photo session! :D)

ha!! The beast that many of us love to hate here in Canada.
Pesky things in parks, open grassy fields and lawns ... and destruction of farm crops!
Yet I can still enjoy seeing them swimming ... just wish they'd stay there, where they belong!! :)

JeanieG 03-19-2013 04:56 PM

Great looking blocks QuiltE! Cool looking goose!

carriem 03-19-2013 05:09 PM

QE--a couple more great blocks!

janRN 03-19-2013 05:13 PM

Great blocks, QE. Love the goose-nice addition. I know what you mean about the geese---we have a lot of river front restaurants and the geese love to hang out hoping for a hand out. Have to watch where you step LOL. Your quilt is going to be so much fun with all these animals.

oksewglad 03-19-2013 05:26 PM

Verna Belle's looking good and her goose even better. So pretty and blends so well with your yellow bg. And yes they can be pesky; but since they don't bother us (no water to attract them) I will enjoy them honking and flying!

dublb 03-19-2013 06:25 PM

Oh, oh, oh! They are wonderful! I just love Verna's Belle's Favorite, & that goose is really special too. Wow what a wonderful pair they make. :)
