I'm early today-- Spider Web..The middles of this type of block drive me crazy!! I may open it up or I just might leave it!
Spool was easy to do. My one fabric choice for Spool is kind of bright---The color kept on calling to me from the pile so I answered and decided to add it.

I like your bright spool! I have some very bright colors in some of my blocks; I'm trying to have enough so that they won't be overly noticeable when the quilt is put together; ditto with some of the boring "colorless" blocks. I think if I have enough of dull/bright, dark/light variety, it should all work together. Anyway, here are my 83 & 84:

FYI, this topic is listed twice. My pictures show up in one of the 2 places, so we might get two 83/84 photo threads going at the same time.

my finger was spastic today when I posted the threads. Hopefully the other one will be removed before any other photos are posted.

I'm down in the mouth because your spider web is perfect and mine isn't. Wah, Wah.

Great blocks, ladies. I liked Spider Web and would like to see a bunch of them together-bet it makes a neat secondary pattern (like a kaliediscope which I can't spell). How do ya like the spools (only novelty fabric I own LOL).

I LOVE your thread spools fabric. I had the same thought about Spider Web side to side, etc.; I wonder if I can use EQ 5 to see what it would look like. (Is it very obvious that I never use my EQ software?)

It's spelled thusly: kaleidoscope (said Weezie, the SCRABBLE whiz).

janRN 05-17-2011 06:37 PM

Thank you scrabble whiz from she who has EQ7 and can only open the Library Section.

I was undecided on material for the spider web so I made two; you can choose your favorite one then. I love what has been posted. Beautiful work as always on the this project from all of you. My spool is not attactive, but fits into the quilt with its colors.

Quilting Nina Sue - Really clever fabric, Spiders!

Connecting Threads has a new line of "quilting" and "sewing" fabrics, would be perfect for the spool block.

janRN 05-18-2011 05:51 PM

oh my--these blocks are great. I love each and every one of them. You guys really know how to pick great color combos!

You also do very well picking color combos. I know you don't think so, but I've liked all your choices. It can be a bit of a time-consuming struggle to find the "right" matches. Sometimes when I think I've picked a winning combination of colors, the colors look a bit crappy together in the finished block. As Anne said recently, it is getting harder and harder to find "new" fabric combinations from existing stash; from that standpoint, it's a good thing we're almost finished.

janRN 05-19-2011 08:57 AM

Thank you, weezie. I had never done scrappy before but by watching what you all do, I actually like scrappy. Maybe by time we finish I'll lose some of my "analness" and insecurity. Nah---

JeanieG 05-19-2011 10:28 AM

I have not done Spider Web yet. Did any of you do paper piecing on this one??

Honchey 05-19-2011 11:26 AM

Yes, I have---I did change it so that each 2/3 piece section is put together individually (8 sections of 2/3 pieces)...and making sure that the seams butt up when joining them. 2 piece seam towards outside edge....3 piece towards the inside point. the Yahoo pping has it different and I didn't like the outcome so I ripped it apart and changed it. Anne

I did the paper piecing and it turned out really bad. Throw away the second half of the piecing pattern and repeat the top half a second time. It works out better.

Yes JeanieG I did paper piece this one, I have been drawing up my own blocks and it seems to have worked for me so far. I pieced 2 sections together then pieced them into 4, then the 4 sections together across the centre. I also pressed my centre seam flat and starched it. Lays nice and flat.
