I couldn't wait Patti, sorry.

BLC has 71 pieces and you start in the center with the small star and work your way out. It's not bad but the center has some really small pieces.

TLC is very easy if you follow 'That quilt' tutes. Goes together very slick. Was my favorite one to do.

Don't apologize to me Jan! Those are gorgeous kites!

Here are mine...

I agree- just take a deep breath and go slow on BLC, its not hard, just start in the middle and work outwards. I printed the entire block, marked it and cut it apart, then pp'd the entire block. The bow tie looking designs on the outside edges were changed on mine a little bit as I redrew the lines so that I could pp it easier.

TLC was easy. I did mine using the English PP. I had never done it before and enjoyed doing it.

Beautiful Meredith, youīve done it, well done everyone.

Now get quilting. are you all going to QAYG or join them all up and SOMEHOW do it on a machine. Has anyone got a longarm? Now that would be a bonus to do that baby on.

Elle

sandpat 01-18-2011 05:34 AM

I think Meredith said she has a LA and is going to do hers on that (lucky girl)...

I had to laugh at your pic of the pile of trimmings Meredith...it looks soooooo familiar!!

Butterflyspain 01-18-2011 06:03 AM

oh Meredith you lucky lady you.

My quilting is coming along. Have finished my fan project so got back to it today. I am doing some of the row B blocks so that I can put the 5 rows together that I have now quilted, well not quite true have 4 left to do on row E. Have two more blocks to do on Row B. Woo hoo

wilhelmina 01-18-2011 07:40 AM

Elle, Yes, I do have a Queen Quilter by Tin Lizzie, but I am very inexperienced as I have been focused on this quilt top, for a year!!! I need to practice practice practice before I tackle this one. So, it will be around the scheduled time before I am finished, but Stargazer Jane will be layed out in my sewing area, in full view to keep me motivated to finish her! I am not tired of looking at her either.

Patti, I thought the trimmings looked so funny, so much, for such a small little star, and all the effort to get there!!! :D I am happy with that tri, although did you notice the bottom tiny appliqued box is slightly off center? I think I may decide to love as it is!

Butterflyspain 01-18-2011 08:01 AM

I canīt see anything wrong with it, its beautiful and with all those pieces I would think twice before even attempting it again.

wilhelmina 01-18-2011 08:49 AM

Elle, I counted 71 pieces for me! It is the small end, it has three pieces, seamed on two sides.

My experience tells me once the quilt is finished and (cold water) washed and tumbled in the dyer, removed slightly damp, to finish air/drying, all those tiny imperfections generally disappear... That is why I love quilting! The finished result is always wonderful. :D

Butterflyspain 01-18-2011 09:03 AM

Got to be ver honesT I am scared to death of washing my Jane. Do you use a liquid soap? Any help on this will be gratly appreciated.

71 pieces WOW for one little block. I must count mine and see what my total is because mine will be different to all of yours, although I will have to count all my applique pieces wonīt I
Elle

wilhelmina 01-18-2011 09:41 AM

I do use liquid soap, but only about 1/4 the amount suggested in a cold water wash, then I use a gentle cycle and cold water rinse-twice. If it had a dirty spot, I would spot clean. There are packets or sheets, they call color catchers, you toss in the washer, and although I have not used them, I am going to buy some for this quilt! I tumble my quilts in the dryer but remove slightly damp and hang or drap across 2-3 chairs and allow them to finish air drying.

During the construction of this quilt, I have sprayed water, and ironed every piece, front and back, so I don't know if that helps set the color...but I am curious to know if the heat and water does aid setting the color???

Generally, I do not prewash my fabrics, unless I am swapping. I prefer to work with new fabrics, as I like the way they feel...:)

BTW, I have a large capacity front load washer and dryer.

Butterflyspain 01-18-2011 10:00 AM

Thanks for that info, donīt know if my washer will take this quilt, now hadnīt thought of that and I donīt think I have ever seen colour catchers here in spain, might have to get some of the internet.

Feeling pleased with myself though I have redone 4 blocks I was not happy with, I found those really hard first time around. they definately went quicker this time, seem to have learned a lot from making this quilt.

Elle

sandpat 01-18-2011 05:19 PM

Meredith...LOL! I don't see a thing!! I think I had either 66 or 77 pieces in that one...a ton of little teeny ones. Once you get it sewn in, I promise...you won't remember it! You are lucky to have the Tin Lizzie...someday when i have room, I'll look into getting something other than my domestic machine. I really don't mind quilting on it though.

Elle....you are going stong girl! Now that you are back on it and done with the fan, it will go even faster!

Janstar 01-18-2011 09:23 PM

Your final kites look so nice Meredith. I also counted 71 pieces on that one. You are one lucky lady to have a Tin Lizzie. I started quilting my blocks tonight. They go pretty fast.

Butterflyspain 01-19-2011 01:05 AM

Well done Patti, sorry you have a sick machine, hate having to be without mine to, although now I have a back up machine, really old but it works in times of need.

Good luck with the quilting Janstar.

sandpat 01-19-2011 05:39 PM

Elle, I would be more than "happy with it"...I'd be jumping up and down! Asian Jane is looking gorgeous! I can't wait to see more rows!

I tell you guys, when I tell people that I am working on my Jane and what stage it is in, they look at me like I was nuts to have even started. I have been so happy with each milestone on this quilt though! Each step makes me so excited and I am more in love with the quilt with every step that gets completed...Do you feel that way??

luvmortherest 01-19-2011 06:36 PM

those are awesome elle

Yes people I have told just "donīt get it" and why would you be so excited about it. anyway, as you say each step is a definate milestone and canīt wait to get the centre finished.
Glad you like my Jane

sandpat 01-20-2011 05:21 AM

Yesterday at my LQS, we were talking about Jane (she looked at me like I had 4 heads) and then I told her about AOTH because I wanted to look for fabric for it...she just moaned and said.."I'd NEVER get finished with that!" , but agreed that its a great looking quilt. I think that they prefer that you do really quick, really easy quilts so that they could sell more fabric (as if I don't buy enough as it is..LOL!)

wilhelmina 01-20-2011 05:44 AM

Patti & Elle, I agree, I love my quilt more and more, truly it may be a greater appreciation of all that effort and sense of accomplishment! For many reasons, I am thrilled with mine too! If I had felt it possible to hand quilt mine, I would have! :D

This may seem silly, but I have slowed down working on mine and finished a couple smaller projects, but now I think I want to enjoy all the finishing and since I am ahead of schedule I don't feel the need to rush.

Patti, you might consider a sit down long arm when you are ready, as those do not take up as much space.

Janstar 01-20-2011 10:45 AM

Your rows are just gorgeous Elle! Love the black sashing!!

I know what you all mean about other people and Jane. Most here have never heard of the quilt before so I give them a bit of history and tell them to look her up on line. It's frustrating that you can't talk to someone about her. Thank goodness for you guys!! Oh, I quilted 10 blocks last night while watching American Idol. You are right, they go pretty fast.

Butterflyspain 01-20-2011 10:48 AM

I actually love the fact that you can QAYG on these tiny blocks, good for you.

I managed to put the first three rows together today and have one other ready to put on. Its going well so far (famous last words)

Elle

sandpat 01-20-2011 05:01 PM

so, are you thinking and scheming about what your border is going to be like while y ou are doing that part Elle??

Jan, I'm more than impressed with your 10 blocks last night!! The most I churned out was 5 in a night...you ROCK girl!

Butterflyspain 01-20-2011 11:49 PM

Would you believe me if I said I never have an idea of what applique I am going to do until I get to that stage, brain canīīt cope with too much going on any more. Nope no idea whatsoever, no lightbulb moment, silch LOL

Janstar 01-24-2011 11:22 PM

It seems some of them have more quilting on them than others. And some I can't see what she did so I just fake it. I even use a magnifying glass to try and see better. It's fun though! It keeps me busy and off the computer too.

sandpat 01-25-2011 06:04 AM

I bought the book (at Lesley's suggestion) to be able to better see what she did in terms of the quilting. A little ways through though, I would check, then decide I wanted something different  My main thought was to NOT stitch in or through the seam lines unless I absolutely had to. They are sooo thick and I don't care for the stab-1 stitch at a time way of quilting.

Janstar 01-27-2011 05:45 PM

I have the book to refer to as well but some of the pics are tough to see. I know what you mean about one stitch at a time! The thickness is bad on some of them! I have 47 finished now. Are you finished yet?

sandpat 01-27-2011 06:01 PM

Wow Jan..47, girl, you are motoring right through them!

I just got my sandwich put together today and will start doing the QITD tomorrow. I'm getting closer.

Janstar 01-27-2011 06:12 PM

No kidding!! That's awesome!!!

luvmortherest 01-27-2011 09:16 PM

WTG patti

wilhelmina 01-28-2011 05:06 PM

Jan, with 47 you are moving along at a fast pace!!

Patti, you just might be finished in January...

WOW
