Today the dog got spayed and I had a tooth pulled.... No sewing going on around here for a day or two. Good timing to have a 'catch up' week!

I, too, have my 1st block made and will be showing it next Sunday. Isn't that going to be great... when we all have real blocks to share. Eye candy, for sure.

hugs, Jupiter

I did not like my first one, made a second. Still not sure....

Almost caught up. Some blocks have not been trimmed to size.

What great fabrics! You did a beautiful job! I really love that black red and green border/stripe print.

Thank you Obsessed. That range is Jinny Beyer's Sofia. The colours are much more vibrant in the flesh.

Here's my last two blocks. I'm ready to start on my first "real" block now.

I need to give the black a good brush!

O.K., I'm thoroughly confused. I finally collected all my
fabric that I had to order from several places, and got ready to do all the foundation blocks to get caught up. However,
I'm stuck on the 4 patch.

My confusion is not in the 4 patch itself, because I can
make those in my sleep. But, the picture she shows on
page 29 for a 4 patch foundation block is a 16 patch.
I looked back at all the finished blocks people have
posted and most have done a regular 4 patch, as per
her instructions for how to make a 4 patch (which really gives you two 4 patches) but I noticed Deecee and Laura
had the 16 patch like the colored picture on page 29.

First of all, how do you get her method to yield a
16 patch, 6 1/2 block? If all the squares were cut
1 1/2" it would finish to 6 1/2", but her instructions
for making a 4 patch has the completed 4 patch ending
up to be a 6 1/2" block, which means the squares are
3 1/2" each. Could someone please clarify this for me
and also for those that ended up with a 6 1/2" 16 patch,
tell me how you did it?

Also, when making the actual blocks, do you need a
regular 4 patch like her instructions tell you to make,
or do you need a 16 patch like the picture on page 29 shows? Thanks so much.
Marcia

I wondered about this as well after seeing posted pictures.

I got 2 four patches.

When you make the actual blocks the instructions for the blocks show you how to modify the foundations as necessary. For example, the measurements and instructions for the 16-patch are with that block (Indiana Puzzle - I think?). The foundations that most have been doing are the practice foundations from the front of the book. They won't be used when making the actual blocks. HTH!

QuiltingHiker 01-26-2011 04:20 PM

Now I understand, I think?????? Lol!

Deecee 01-26-2011 11:55 PM

As I was behind I decided not to do the practice foundations but to do foundations that I could use in the "proper" blocks. The 16 patch is for Indiana Puzzle, using 4 four-patches which were cut at 4-1/2" and not 8" as the pratice foundation was.

For each of my foundation blocks I have taken the measurements from a "proper" block, so then (if it worked out O.K.) I have it ready to use.

I hope this explains the difference. Knowing that I am a slow worker and being late getting started, I was trying to save a bit of time with the foundations.

Sorry if I created any confusion.
