Rhonda's Second Sampler Quilt Along - Week 17 - Lillian
2 Attachment(s)
This week we are using 4 Patch Square Combination Blocks and Kansas Dugout Blocks
So as usual it uses my cut down method which I think makes your blocks more accurate and you have better control of the size as you go. Just make sure to measure each time you complete a step. It will save a lot of frustration when you are done. Here are the directions to making the 4 Patch Square Combination Blocks http://www.bitsnpiecesworkshop.com/p...tionBlocks.php My directions for making Kansas Dugout Blocks http://www.quiltingboard.com/tutoria...ks-t59742.html For the blocks that are half and half I sew strips together and then cut out a square with half the fabric on one side and the other fabric on the other half. To make this quilt block into a 12 1/2" unfinished size you will need a 2 1/2" template. You can take a look at the layout picture to see what Blocks you need and where to put the colors. If you change the color arrangement you will get a differant look from mine. So try it out and see what you can make with this design! Have fun! If you need any help don't hesitate to ask. I'll be more than happy to help. If you need templates let me know. I will need your postal address and PLEASE send it by pm or email not on the open board. The templates are FREE no fees or postage needed. |

I will be happy to send you the templates but I do need a postal address. Please send it to me in a pm if you would. DON'T post it here as this is very public. As for the Kansas Dugouts I posted the link to the directions in the post with the pictures. Just follow the link and you can follow the tutorial to learn to make them my way. They're easy to do! |

follow the link for the Kansas Dugouts to the tutorial that you can use to learn to make that shortcut block my way. Then also follow the other link to the tutorial for that shortcut block. These links are posted in the first post where you see the pictures. then come back here and look at the layout that shows you where and how to lay each "Block" as in Kansas Dugout Block or 4 Patch Block. You will see there are colors that need to go in certain places to get the look I designed. If you change the value of the colors you will get a differant look. so be careful to maintain good contrast and the right values of color in the right places. Once you have learned to make the "Blocks" and looked at the layout to see how to lay out the "Blocks" and what colors you need - then you just sew them together into a quilt block. Easy! I like to remind people to pay attention when you cut out the blocks that you cut accuratelyl and don't have a skewed corner or an undercut corner. Accuracy at this level will make life easier when you go to sew the blocks together later on. Also I don't pin my seams together I use a tack. Here's a little tutorial to show how I use the tacks. http://www.quiltingboard.com/tutoria...t153883-3.html |
