I find I agree with those who cut out their templates to use in pp; since I think differently, I even draw the lines on the back side so I can sew there and piece to the front rather than the proper way of sewing on the front. Somehow it seems to work for me. Each to their own way...that works best for them. Maybe it will change when my vision does; cannot believe them that I can lose the glasses then. Time will tell. Right now, its blind in one eye legally, and half bind in the other one due to the cataract 'clouding' things over. Since I am the primary care giver, and principal driver, I drive on the defense, not offense. And let my bf drive in DM.

Jeanie - Yes I do ya can buy the heavy stuff at the LQS ta go through the printer. I used ta buy the stuff on a roll at the grocery store & iron it on ta copy paper. That works too but I prefer ta use the stuff that is already cut & go's through the printer all by itself. :) I also PP on the freezer paper but ya can PP however ya want & still make your templates outta Freezer paper. (I even make templates for anything else that calls for templates outta freezer paper, well except English PP templates. LOL)

I have found the "add a 1/4" ruler to be a life saver when paper piecing. You can get them from many sources but here's the link to the maker of them (I'm not related to them in any manner...just really like my ruler). It has all sort of hints on their page also.

Dublb - do you print onto the freezer paper?
Anael - do you cut out each template, then add an amount (say 1/2") around each one when you trace it onto the fabric? Any advice anyone can give us to help with this paper piecing is so appreciated! Thanks dublb and Anael!!! |

Thank you Mirabelle.
Anael, what a great idea to use an extra print out for a template for the fabric. I had never thought of that. |
Thanks Dublb!

Mirabelle, I tried that too but each time I don't watch my embroidery machine it makes a mess out of something. Either skipping stitches, making a birds nest or shifting fabric, no matter how many pins I use to secure the fabric :( So I don't have my embroidery machine running while sewing.
