TheQuiltingBoard Block of the Month, 2013

Our theme this year is "Yes, We Can!"

To track the blocks selected, please CLICK HERE.

The idea is to select blocks that will challenge us to learn something new.

A block will be posted on the 1st of each month.

Sulabug has already selected a lovely block for us to kick off 2013.
That block will be announced on 1 Jan 13.

I have one picked out for 1 Feb 13.

If anybody would like to volunteer to select blocks in the following months, please send me a PM.

1. All registered and active members of the board are eligible to request a spot on a "pickers' list".

2. Pickers will be responsible for either a link to existing directions for a block, or for providing directions for the block they've chosen. We all have different skill levels and technique preferences.

When choosing a block, please check copyrights and terms of use set forth by the authors of the instructions. Pickers are strongly encouraged to pick only blocks from the Public Domain and instructions that do not place strict or severe limits on what we can do with the blocks we make using those instructions.

As individual quilters, WE are responsible for making sure we read, understand, and comply with those copyright/terms of use statements.

3. Anyone who sees the list and likes the blocks is invited to make them. However, only registered members of the board will be able to post pictures of the blocks they've made.

4. If a posted block doesn't interest you, feel free to skip it.

5. There will be two threads for each block. Both of them will be in the BOM section of the board. One thread for directions and discussion, and the other thread for pictures of the finished blocks. For the sake of keeping things sane all other threads will be moved or deleted.

When posting a new BOM, please make sure to use the appropriate titles, such as:
"October 1, 2007 - Drunkard's Path - Directions & Discussion"
and
"October 1, 2007 - Drunkard's Path - Photos"

5. Pick and make any blocks you like from any lists you like. No matter how long ago a block was picked, you are still invited to post pictures when you make one. Just make sure to post your pics in the pictures thread for that block.

6. Again - You don't have to be a registered member or on the lists to play along. The lists simply tell us which registered members have volunteered to take a turn selecting a block. Any registered board member can volunteer for a turn. Simply send a PM to PatriceJ, who will update the list.

6. Our Block of the Month activities are NOT swaps.

7. Have fun! Quilting is fun and Quilter's Rock!!!!!

Sounds like fun.
Any hints?

patricej 12-26-2012 01:22 AM

all i can say is that if you play along you will prove to yourself that you can do anything - even if you think of yourself as a beginner.

we are setting out to leave "i can't" so far back in the dust it isn't so much as a speck in our rear-view mirrors.

:)

any volunteers who'd like to help me select our opportunities?

knitsew 12-26-2012 04:46 AM

Sounds like fun

Dodie 12-26-2012 05:21 AM

I am really looking forward to this I may have trouble the first 2 months as we will be in Az. and not sure of what I will have for internet dervice so hope I can find the first 2 patterns in March thank you

coopah 12-26-2012 05:43 AM

Playing sounds like fun, but retirement is freeing me from making decisions that affect others. But playing and stretching my expertise sounds like a ton of fun!

meanmom 12-26-2012 06:46 AM

I subscribed to the thread. I look forward to trying some new things.

This should be fun and a great learning experience. The first quilting class that I took years ago was a sampler class. I still have the blocks. Among the things that I learned from that experience was to use good fabrics and the same background fabric. Too bad the teacher did not mention it.

klgreene 12-26-2012 09:33 AM

I'll be following this along. Anything new I can learn is so welcomed!

karenpatrick 12-26-2012 02:56 PM

I'm in. I decided that, along with finishing all my UFOs (I only have 6) I wanted to stretch myself in 2013. I've been playing it safe for too long. Time to GROW!!

SandyinZ4 12-26-2012 03:03 PM

I am going to follow this thread and perhaps (no promises) I can find a sort of challenging block for everyone to make. Will keep on the lokout. In the meantime, the whole thing sounds like fun. Thanks Patrice.

Difergie 12-26-2012 03:15 PM

I am going to do this also!

Sapphire_Rae 12-26-2012 05:12 PM

This sounds like fun, I'm in. Looking forward to getting out of my comfort zone.

TOOMANYUFO'S 12-26-2012 07:37 PM

I will definately be following this one. I am way behind on 2012's quilt blocks. So I may just watch this one. I like to be challenged, but seem to always fall behind. I guess I start too many projects and they end up ufos.

pjnesler 12-26-2012 08:29 PM

I'm going to keep this one in mind!

JuanitaBean 12-26-2012 10:41 PM

I will be following this along all so. Ready to try something new.

You're okay with too many ufos. At least you won't get bored. My almost 85 year old mother gave me a journal for Christmas that says "Me & My Big Ideas. A Goal Journal" on the cover. It goes back to the store today. It was not meant kindly, and I just like to try new things. Plus, she doesn't realize how much time I spend doing for her. This thread sounds like fun, so I say, "Have at it."

dd 12-27-2012 05:49 AM

I'm in. Sounds like fun to me.

WI Rose 12-27-2012 09:05 AM

I, too, am in and looking forward to new challenges. One challenge is finishing last year's as I have the last 3 months to do.

Nelco 12-27-2012 10:39 AM

Count me in----i am always up for something new. :)

nancia 12-27-2012 11:02 AM

I may be a silent partner, but i can certainly use a boot well placed to get me moving forward! I'm not as confident as i would like to be!

Raine 12-27-2012 11:03 AM

Can't wait! On vacation that week, therefor I can work on the block....make it hard..need a challenge! Thanks, Sulabug.

ayellowrose 12-27-2012 11:58 AM

Count me in!

CAS49OR 12-27-2012 12:46 PM

I would love to join...sounds like fun!

that's one of the great things about our BsOM.
no need to sign up (unless you'd like to volunteer to select one of our blocks.)
jump in whenever you like.
we don't delete them so they'll be here waiting as long as you need. :)

lovelyl 12-27-2012 03:00 PM

I'm in too! Can't wait!

zennia 12-27-2012 04:28 PM

This sounds interesting. I need to get out of my comfort zone and try something new. I will here on the 1st.

Sucia 12-27-2012 04:34 PM

Stars please

I'm itching to make a quilt for myself with stars.

CAS49OR 12-27-2012 04:35 PM

Thanks Patrice, it will be fun! I don't think I'll volunteer till I figure out what I'm doing. I played with Mr. Clover (seam ripper) more than I played with Mr. Janome (sewing machine) today!

I'm in, I've been working on a sampler quilt and this will give me new ideas!

Charming 12-27-2012 09:16 PM

Wow very tempting...thinking so hard.....hmmmmm I think I should even with the gazillion things I have planned...

maryellen2u 12-27-2012 09:57 PM

How can I make sure I am receiving the BOM directions etc.? I don't want to "miss out" or "mess up"!

mimiknoxtaylor 12-28-2012 04:09 AM

I'm in again this year. This year I am only doing 1 block per month. That doing 1 for each granddaughter just can't happen again :D

frenchfryqueen 12-28-2012 08:34 AM

I'm in. (Hopefully for the long haul.) I like the idea of having this wonderful group of ladies to keep me accountable. lol. Surely I can squeak out one block a month!

I'd like to pick a block if I could.. there are a lot of techniques out there I personally need to work on. Can I pick September? It's our wedding anniversary. :)

fmhall2 12-28-2012 08:36 AM

Patrice, I would love to take February if possible. I have a heart block (appliqued) that you crazy quilt the heart. That would be learning something new for some people. I have good directions for it, too. Thanks for considering this for me. MargieLou Hall fmhall2

Elisabrat 12-28-2012 11:38 AM
