So glad to see all of you having so much fun on this trip. But I must admit, I have gained 4 pounds with all the goodies in the club car.

This time, you will make 16 Flying Geese blocks.
I have a tip for you to make perfect geese. See ** HINT: toward the bottom of this posting.

At this point, some of you may want to change your fabric choices. On 2/20/2012, I said to cut 3-¼” strips of fabric A. These will be the background for the flying geese. Now that you have come this far, perhaps you want these rectangles to be the same fabric that made up the pinwheel center Or maybe you want something entirely different. I have used my original A fabric, as you can see in the pictures shown here, below.

Now, you can cut the rest of your A B C D and E fabrics. On to the flying geese!
Cut 16 pieces of A fabric 3-¼” x 6”
Cut 4 pieces of A fabric 3-¼” square and set aside for April 16.
Cut 8 pieces of B fabric 3-¼” square
Cut 8 pieces of C fabric 3-¼” square
Cut 8 pieces of D fabric 3-¼” square.
Cut 8 pieces of E fabric 3-¼” square

Mark a diagonal line from corner to corner on each of the B C D and E pieces.
Make 4 flying geese using 4 of the A rectangles and 8 of the B fabrics: (top picture)
Take one B square, lay it right sides together on the larger A rectangle, sew from corner to corner. Press as shown. Lay second B square on other edge and sew from corner to corner. Repeat and make 4 of these A-B blocks.
Do the same with A and C, A and D, and A and E. You will be making 4 each of the different fabric combinations for a total of 16 flying geese blocks. (bottom picture)

** HINT:(see pictures 2, 3 and 4) I have trouble making perfect flying geese , so I came up with a bit of a cheat. I mark the diagonal line, place it on the rectangle, and sew one thread away from the line, on the side of line toward the corner that will be covered when the square is pressed. Press and sew the other square in the same manner. When pressed, turn over, and if uneven, trim to a perfect 3-¼ x 6” rectangle. Then trim off the material underneath (as shown: second from right of the first picture) and your flying geese block will be perfect.

FOR THOSE MAKING A SCRAPPY QUILT TOP: cut 3-¼” squares - you will need a total of 32. Either do a mix of fabrics, or 16 of each fabric, however you would like your geese to look. Cut 16 3-¼” x 6” rectangles of assorted fabrics, or use one fabric. Maybe you would like to use the F fabric for the rectangles. Use 2 squares (your choice - use 2 of the same or 2 different fabrics) and one 3-¼” x 6” rectangle; make a total of 16 flying geese as described above .

I hope iam wrong but didn't u change the 31/4 strip to31/2 in clue 2 or did I misunderstand that

No, Stitching, the strips are to be 3-1/4" wide. I had made a typo in a posting that one of the sharp-eyed riders noticed. I'm so sorry for any confusion. I know this is a strange width for flying geese, but I needed to adjust the size of the geese to fit the piece that has already been completed.
