  2. Spiral Table Runner

    by , 04-26-2011 at 07:57 PM
You will need the longest one for this project - mine is the one marked 3 1/4" at the bottom (narrow end)and 25 1/4" at the top (wide end) even though the actual length of the ruler is 22 1/2" - strange, but it works!!

I have the 10 degree ruler which makes the runner finish at about 22" x 42" but I have been told that using a 9 degree ruler works the same except that the runner will be very slightly smaller.

First you have to cut all strips to make four log cabig. All strips are 1- 1/2" wide and 44" long. The square is 3- 1/2" by 3- 1/2". Then you have to cut diagonaly through each large block.
Pieces a strip set of fabrics D though F. Cut two triangles to strips it. The triangle must not be inverted vertically.
Cut 8 triangules from each strip set.
Cut 8 pieces of backgroud fabric the BG template and sew the 8 triangles to each BG.

I have to make some additions on this. It was brought to my attention that I was doing this on a log cabin block, which has straight edges. Not a problem with the sashings coming over the top. BIG PROBLEM WITH POINTS!!! So.....I will have to add some guidelines as not to lose the points.
Say the top block is 12.5. Batting should not be cut to 12.5, but to 13.5 inches square, backing piece should be cut 15.5. AFTER QUILTING THE BLOCK, cut the batting to 13 inches square, there should be 3/4 ...

Now...on to the sashing..hang on...I'm going to measure.

    Between the blocks- 1/2" finished,so cut 1" x 5 1/2"

The outer skinny sashing between the center and the tri border is 1/4" finished. Cut 3/4" wide.

    Hi Everyone,
A while back I took Roolen's great tutorial and put it into a Word Document, with a few additions of some exact measurements for cutting the triangles,
etc. Then, I contacted Roolen and told her what I had done actually another QB member put it into PDF for me from my Word Doc.). I asked for her permission to post it here on this topic and she said that would be fine. So, you will find both the Word Doc. and the PDF format of this tutorial with a few tweeks. She did ask ...
