I have a lot of squares leftover from the first quilt I made and I told my DD that I would make another and give it to her. I did buy some new fabrics to freshen up the look a little. There weren't enough of the lighter colors leftover for hers, so I bought some new light colors to add from fabric.com and I received my order today. I will start sewing this weekend.
I have been knitting the last couple of weeks. I'm making two knitted hats to give away at my family reunion and
I posted a picture of the front and the back in the pictures forum. I'll put them in my photo album as well.
Last night I sewed the binding to the back of the quilt. I had a little trouble with the joining of the binding at the end because I have not learned how to do the 45 degree angle join yet. I usually just push the two ends together with a straight edge on the potholders and wallhangings I have done. I wanted this quilt to be right, so I used a youtube video and worked on joining the binding last night for over an hour. It was an experience and I learned a lot.
Tonight I will
Is that a good excuse to be late for work on Monday morning? I thought I had plenty of time, but I ran over when I stopped my usual routine to cut binding strips for my quilt this morning before I went to work. I just couldn't wait until tonight to do it. It was a quick job, but apparently not quick enough. I was 10 minutes late this morning. I just was so anxious to get the binding started after taking yesterday afternoon to watch a movie and do some housework and play with the dog.
I finished the quilting on my first every lap quilt top this morning. It went a lot easier this morning because I was doing parts that didn't need special attention. I had quilted the vertical and diagonal lines yesterday and just had to be careful to check everytime I finished for bubble and the back messing up. Luckily that all went pretty smoothly, so I did the diagonal lines this morning and was done in less than 2 hours. I like the way it came out and I'll be squaring and binding this week.
What a day I have had. Last night I ironed and pieced the back of the quilt. Today I sandwiched the quilt and pin basted getting it ready for FMQing on my Singer 301A. I set up the Singer for FMQ, but it does not like to doe FMQ. Which I think is odd because it worked so nice piecing my quilt top. Anyway, I did one ugly line of stitching. I was not happy with it, so I ripped the stitching and switched machines.
I now have about 1/5 of the FMQing done on the top and it looks
I was just reading a little of "The Man's" history. He was quite the rogue and very busy. He had 20 children. I'll have to get a book on him and read all about his craziness.
In the meantime, I'll enjoy his work on the best invention evah! The spectacular sewing machine. I love sewing machines, I don't care if they are Singer's or Sears. They are all wonderful to me.
It's Friday and when I get off from work in 15 minutes, I will be going home to
I'm going to iron tonight and maybe cut it up. I'm going to put some squares that are left over from the top in the backing piece so that will take me a while because I want to line them up with other squares in the top. I may not start quilting until next week, depending on how long the back takes me to finish.
This is so much fun working on this quilt. I'm having a blast and staying out of trouble.
Hope everyone is having fun with their projects.
I went to JoAnn's after work tonight and purchased some dark blue material that I will use for the back and binding of the family reunion quilt. I have to wash it, then I want to piece in a few squares leftover from the front of the quilt. Then I will sandwich and quilt. I should get the quilting started this weekend. I hope to be done with the quilt by the end of the month.
Yeah, everything is working out so well. I just have to take my time and finish the rest without rushing.
I'm really pleased with the way it turned out. I posted a picture in the picture forum and I posted a picture in my picture album in my profile under "stuff I made." I still have to get backing and binding material to get it sandwiched and quilted, but I can probably do that this week and get it sandwiched and start to quilt next weekend. I pieced this on my Singer 301A that I named for the Grandmother that we all celebrate when we have our reunions. It should be a fun giveaway.
