  1. Scam update and off to quilt!

    by , 10-28-2013 at 08:39 AM
For all you that read about our attempted scam from the sale of hay(off the state hay board!)--despite my DH willingness to be part of a "sting" the is actually no crime against us cause we were too wise to fall for this scam--the bank that the fake cashier's check "drawn" on is the one that gets to pursue it. And they really never wanted hay--only our $$. Now, the part that I find incredible (wasn't there a tv show about stupid criminals??) is that the scammer continues to ...

  2. Finally--quilt business gets going and victim of a fraud!!

    by , 10-25-2013 at 08:23 AM
Just so pleased with myself--I FINALLY got over the hesitancy I have about marketing myself/skills and made contact this week with a high school I used to work at to place an ad in their sports program for graduation T-shirt quilts! No orders yet, obviously, but it's a start! And I also heard from my LQS that she has a couple of small quilts for me to work on and display in the shop--along with my business card. The owner has been very encouraging of me and just a good friend.

  3. Finally finishing the "Money" sampler on the long arm!!

    by , 10-21-2013 at 09:13 PM
After months of debating what to quilt--and whether I was skilled enough to actually do what I might envision, I am almost finished with my sampler lap quilt that hopefully will result in some actual customers! The LQS offered to hang something of mine, and hopefully this will be it. 9 sampler blocks--all rather complex piecing seemed to deserve some complex quilting. Each block has unique quilting--I want to show what I can do. So far only one tension problem--which meant "unsewing" ...

  4. Quilt for Veteran pieced!!

    by , 10-14-2013 at 10:23 PM
Back from Eureka Springs Arkansas--check out "Treasures from the Pacific" if you visit. It's a shop that has lots of Hawiian applique patterns and some pretty Asian fabrics. Picked up 6 fat quarters--feeling good that was only purchase--trying to reign in my expenses!

The Vet's quilt is a out of Fons and Porters--went together quickly and goes on the long arm tomorrow a.m.--AFTER I help my hubbie switch out a light over the long arm!

After getting back from the AQS show in Des Moines (still just thinking about those jaw-dropping quilts!), I realized that my house was showing my lack of cleaning attention and have to host bunco next week--so really dug in and did some of that "deep" cleaning Managed to get the WWII Vet quilt cut (pretty simple pattern--I hope!) and got the Guild newsletter "to bed" and managed to do some sample quilting on the long arm for my new business--but no real work yet.

  6. AQS show in Des Moines has completely knocked me out!

    by , 10-03-2013 at 10:00 PM
No! Seriously--the quilts where just breathtaking--kept muttering to myself "look at that! WOW!"--and I wore out before I even saw everything!
Couldn't get any buddies to go with me for the first 2 days of the EVENT--I wanted to take a couple of long arm classes and couldn't be there on Friday-Sunday due to home stuff. So drove the 3 hours to DM by myself and stayed withing a block of the show. Even the hotel was a hoot! Can you imagine an entire hotel filled with quilters ...
