I had a little different situation. My DH bought a "quilt bed in a bag" because it saved me lots of time instead of making a quilt and the price was the same as the fabric. I was supportive by letting him "feel" the difference in the quality of the fabric. Then I asked him was I suppose to mow his yard while he played golf with all my free time. He looked at his purchase and said "I need to return this to the store".

Wow! After reading this thread, I'm glad I've never bought any pre-cuts, although I've often considered it! Seems to me, if the cuts are advertised as being a certain size, giving the consumer anything OTHER THAN that size should be considered false advertising. As for accusing others of being "unforgiving," I think that's being extremely unfair. It's not as if the company "made a mistake" by selling an inferior product. On the contrary, the company is aware of the problem

Welcome to the board and the world of quilting! Your quilt, your rules! You can do anything you like. I am currently working on a quilt where the center is a flannel panel and in order for the quilt to get to the dimension I needed I added different size borders, only mine are wider on the sides rather than the top and bottom. Here is a picture, the black border closest to the panel is wider on the sides and so is the border outside the pieced pine trees. It works for me but with this picture
