I'm making a baby quilt 46x58". I'm an inexperience quilter, i have join a quilting group out of a church, we meet twice a month they are teaching me the techniques of quilt. So far i have sew all the pieces together, my next step in to put the batting and the back and be ready for the quilting process. My question to you all, i would like to do the quilting by hand, since to me it has more of a sentimental reason, vs having someone else do the stitching, however i do not have that much time, I need to have it finish including the binding by the end of Sept. I'm going to N.Y in Oct to meet our new grandson and given it to him as a gift from me. Your input to this matter is greatly appreciated.

I think that if I tried to do one BY HAND, it would never be finished....I do all the quilting by machine, have never sent anything out to a person with a long arm, to do for me..........somehow, that just isnt the same as doing it all yourself (just my opinion, dont mean to be making any judgement on anyone else).
To me, the fast and easy way to do the quilting on your own machine is to NOT be doing the StitchInTheDitch method........I like doing a running, side to side stitch...........most any of the decorative stitches on your machine will work for this, especially if its a design that goes from one side to the other...zigzag, scallops, whatever........on my Bernina, I use #4, and make the stitch lenght a bit longer (about 3).......gives it a decorative look too, and its so much easier than doing that stitch in the ditch way.

I have always hand quilted. A little every day. I don't use a frame just thoroughly baste top, batting and bottom real good. In no time it is ready for border. Good luck. Your grandson is receiving a treasure. Be sure parents know it is to be 'used' a lot. Better use and wear out then just tucked aside and not enjoyed. Take Pictures !!!!!
