I was told for my first quilt to make would be the "Log Cabin". Does anyone know where I can download a free pattern that will explain how to and how much material I will need? I appreciate your help. Excited to get started. Any other advice or easy pattern suggestions appreciated. Thank you!!!

Hello CindiSu! I just joined this blog today so am enjoying reading others posts. I started working on my Dear Jane quilt a few years ago, fell off the wagon per say, and recently started again. I'm doing mine by hand piecing. I'm using a cream colored background and multiple solid colored fabrics to make mine. I've not followed any specific layout or pattern for the colors I've seen. I kind of wish I had now.
I've determined I can easily finish one block a day, and should have the rest of mine done by the end of the year. I am retired so time is not of essence. It was harder to work on a block a day when I was still working. It would be so nice to have someone else to communicate with as I work on mine. Just let me know if I can be of any help!

Hi JBecker! Thank you for the link. I will browse through it later this evening. I will be sewing my quilt with a machine. I did by the Go! Cutter to help with some of the more used shapes to save time. I haven't begun anything yet. Still trying to find a simple pattern I will be able to do. I am new to sewing and quilting, but I am up for the challenge.Should be a nice relaxing project for me to do. (i hope) I would be more than happy to chat along the way of our progress on our quilts! You have a much more difficult challenge doing it by hand. I am sure it will look absolutely beautiful! Keep me posted..... I appreciate all advice.

I did start with using 4 1/2 inch squares and 2 1/2 inch triangles and squares. Made 9 square block that looked like a star. It came out nice so far.... I am really watching my points. I did find the Go cutter for $200 with free shipping. Came with the one die that I am using now. I am saving up to get the larger basic shaped dies. Everything is so expensive when you are just starting out. I had nothing to begin with. I have had to buy sewing machine, Go cutter, Material, Cutting Board, and other small supplies. I would like to get a few more things, but this will have to do for now. Who would of thought it would be so expensive. Keep you posted on how I am doing. Thanks for the advice. I am loving to quilt!
