I received a new Janome 8077 for Christmas 2012 from my husband. I love using it, however I want to attempt free motion quilting...with practice on scrap pieces first until I learn to do it correctly.
My question is....I have looked on the internet and found several darning feet for FMQ. Any recommendations? Should I get one with plastic foot or metal...pros and cons.

Do I HAVE to buy a Janome brand darning foot or will any manufacturer darning foot work? There is a large difference in price from $9.99 up to $30+.

Please advise, I am anxious to try out FMQ.
I am new at quilting, just started last year and am currently working on my 4th quilt.

Be careful buying other brands to fit your machine. I have a Brothers and Janome the parts can be used on both machines. Check your manual and it will give the correct one to purchase.

Hey there, Kinminis! I use attachments that match the machine. Yes, they can be expensive. I buy things on eBay and can usually get a better price, not always, though. Sometimes eBay teaches me the price I thought was expensive at my retail supplier is actually cheap. When using walking feet or darning feet, I use plastic as it is lighter and I can see through it, rather than having light bounce off of it and be distracting. Here's a nice video about altering darning feet: http://bit.ly/ZPVUbJ See what you think! Much Love, Fondly, Robin
