I am looking for an older metal singer sewing machine, or other brands, to do heavy sewing. I am wanting to do purses with upholstery fabric or outdoor fabrics with stabilizer as a backing and the newer sewing machines just do not work. I have a featherweight and it just sometimes just not strong enough. Any suggestions??? I really do not want to spend an arm and a leg for one.

Where do you live? I have metal Kenmore from the 60s or 70s. It is in northern California near Eureka.

I went to your profile and see that you are from MU city! I live at the Lake and have seen several old Singers in antique shop at Eldon, one like my moms at the Hope House in a beautiful cabinet a couple of weeks ago. There are quite a few around and most of those vintage Singers are horses. Top Stitch at Barnett always has used machines and Timothy is great providing info and services most machines. My DH saw one in Camdenton at a Resell Shop. All were under $100. Good luck!
