I am new to quilting! But learning a lot from all of you, thank you. I am hearing from some local quilters that if you steam your fabric real well that you get the same effect if you were to wash it. Concerned about stinking. Have been using high quality cotton, but just recently bought some from Jo Ann Fabrics. Would love to just iron the fabric it this is true!

    I used to wash & press all my fabrics. We had a nationally known quilt teacher at our guild last year who said she doesn't wash, but uses 'as is' since the fabrics are made much better nowadays. I generally wash really dark colors, red especially, black, and navy. Honestly the water usually runs clear from the get go. Good luck.
