Retail Therapy: Doctor's Orders

"Honey, I'm just following the doctors orders. He said that if I were to do something that made me happy, I wouldn't get depressed."

As he holding the credit card statements in his fist, wavering them through the air, "But our insurance does not cover this. I can't itemize these charges on our taxes. And how much happiness did he state that you needed?"

I'm sure that is going to be my nightmare tonight. In all reality, my partner supports my passion. Well really I'm just good at hiding my purchases. As long as he doesn't open that closest he won't know exactly how much I have purchased in the last two weeks.

I went on my first quilting retreat at the end of October stopping at three shops on the way to the retreat. And if that was not enough, I went to a shop nearby the retreat.

These four shops were shops that I have never been to and I was overwhelmed when I walked in. Shopping with your friends is always a great time, but not helpful when trying to refrain from breaking the bank. We kept showing each other fabric and the UFO lists kept growing.

After the retreat we all went our separate ways home, except for me. I continued my trip and went to visit my aunts and uncles in northern Michigan. I was half way there and I haven't seen them in over a year.

While I was at my aunts house, I dragged her to two shops that were 15 miles from her home. And on my way back home I made one last stop in Gaylord to see that store. That's seven new stores in five days.

The last two days, my friend and I went on a holiday shop hop. Again, shopping with friends is a great time. There were seven stores and five of them were new to me. I did really good until I found Michael Millers Fairy Frost. I think that I have every color now except the red and white that i really like the most, and all I was looking for is bears in the wild.

I haven't actually taken the receipts and added up the totals for the last two weeks, but I'm guessing close to $800. I'm going to ride this high until I get the statements, and then I'm going to wonder what the doctor will order?

Isn't Fairy Frost wonderful? I have all the blues, blue-greens, violet, greys and white. But everyone knows snow and ice aren't red, so none of that. Maybe pinky-violet at sunset or sunrise, but not red.

I can't hide purchases well, because the accounts are all on automatic download to Quicken. So it is better to just own up.

Where is your family in N MI? My Aiti's (that's whmemos mom called her so I did, too was 12 before I realized I was calling my grandma mother) family settled in Michigami; she went on with grandpa do NE MN.

Just go into that closet, tub, or what ever your fabric is in and refold it. This should revived that same high as you get to run your hands over your delicious finds. It works for me.. in fact I have been doing this these last few days.. as I try and sort my fabrics, putting them into groups by color, type, or project..
