I understand your reluctance in retiring but that will pass, I promise. I was lucky enought to retire early and it frightened me. I can honestly say it is wonderful. I don't know where my days go. I am so busy and able to spend time with my grandchildren. My sewing room is a mess because I'm in it all the time. I would love to tell you my house is cleaner than ever but it's not and boy have my priorities changed. My husband loves it and especially likes the idea of me being home when he gets here. I retired a year ago but got pretty bored because the dog was awful hard to talk with. I got a part time job recently which is great. If I didn't have this option I would volunteer some place. You likely have a lot skills that shouldn't be wasted. I bet you're good at organizing..want to practice on my sewing room?lol

I was lucky enough to retire almost four years ago, one month short of my 51st birthday, after 29 years from the US Postal Service. They want to pay less and give less benefits to new employees. The door did not hit me on the way out, in fact by request I retired 3 months earlier than they wanted me to. I volunteer for the Red Cross on blood drives, as well as donating platelets and making appointments for drives from home. And enjoy time in my sewing room. Retirement has allowed me time to learn embroidery & applique, do BOMs (that still need to be sewn together so I can quilt them), take classes to learn all kinds of new techniques, and of course SURF on this board and many other quilty websites & blogs. HAD to make a goal this past week to complete 4 UFOs for gifting and was successful!!!! Never a dull moment unless you want it to be.....can you tell I am a very happy retiree. ))))

I retired 3 years ago after 19 years at the Health Department. I am never bored. I love waking up in the morning without the alarm screaming at me and rushing to get dressed for work. Besides taking care of my husband, cooking, cleaning and running errands, I still find the time to quilt. I love being able to travel and visit my grandkids and spend quality time with them. At times, I feel that there's not enough time in the day to finish the things I want to do. Never thought of going back to work. So many quilts to make and the grandkids are growing so fast and I'm getting older.

I grew up working in a grocery store that my dad owned so I approached the young man that is now the manager of our one grocery store in town (he went to school with my son). I asked if he thought they would be hiring after the first of the year and he told me he would always find a place for me if I wanted it. Really made me feel good. Not sure that I will follow up on it but it's nice to have the option should I want it. And right now I'm wishing I had not given 3 months notice--I could go home today and be very content.
