That darling, thepolyparrot (whose location is Mars!), gave me some terrific ideas - Here I decided on the one in the third row center. Progress report: two rows done. Looked at them and realized I have to rip apart the first one. Lesson learned - now I know why quilters plan their quilts BEFORE they start to put them together. Another adventure.
All my strips are now sewn into HST squares with black. Now what? I first thought I'd do a sunlight and shadows with blue toned squares offset going into red at the bottom - eight across, then seven, etc. But then I have all these other ones left over. Put them in the middle? Or should I do sets of four squares and just move them around? OR ... pinwheels? Help! Here they are. The colors are off in my photos - the blues and reds are deep and rich.
The 9 1/2" squares are all cut out and I decided to pair them with black. I cut out 9 1/2" squares of black fabric and sewed a 1/4" seam all around. Nothing ever goes right. I ran out of black fabric and still have 12 squares of the strips. What to do? Just use the squares paired with the black? Send my son out to get more black since I'm carless today and also sick? I really just wanted to use up my stash, but with the extra trimmings ...

I've been to fabric stores with less fabric than we saw here. It was the home of a fabric designer who was quite alive and well.
