A few months ago my husband and I decided to swap my old sewing room with the master bedroom. More room for me, puts sewing room on opposite side of the house, so easy peasy, right? Not so much, because we also decided to redo all the floors and paint. My husband works nights, sleeps days so this is good for him and the old sewing room will be turned into a spare. Or maybe I will just take it for my own bedroom. Decorate the way I want.

So anyway, We got the master emptied and sewing furniture moved in and I pulled out what I needed in there to sew. Happy Camper!
Yesterday my husband decided we had to get the old sewing room floor ready to do, and the rest of the stuff had to come out. What a mess. Now I have more boxes all over my living room, and more stuff to sort through.

So I approach this logically, don't laugh, and pull everything out of the new sewing room closet so I can get the fabric, etc out of the old sewing room closet and moved there. From one small walk in to another slightly larger walk in. Should be easy. Of course not. And now more mess in my new sewing room. The problem is, I don't think it will all fit. I have taken several loads of junk to the charity but I still have too much stuff. And I hate having bins of fabric or whatever just sitting out. I may be a fabric hoarder, but I am an organized fabric hoarder.

My biggest problem is that I am starting to get overwhelmed. I am good at planning, but now that it is reality, it is a daunting task. My daughter told me that she wished I was able to take a cruise and then she would have come in and organized it all for me. Sounds good, but I doubt I would have anything left after she was done. She also lives too far away and I can not afford a cruise.

I keep telling myself how great it will be when it is done. I just wish I was younger and could get this all done in one day.

Well, back to work, thanks for letting me vent.

Just take one step at a time, you will get it done. Would help if I were closer.

I can relate -

but you will so enjoy it when it's done.

Bet you are finding a lot of things you had forgotten about - think of it as "going on a treasure hunt"

and you can show us some of the goodies that you turn up.

You sound like me. I get on an organizing kick and then end up overwhelmed. I recently decided to see what fabric I could donate to this "pillowcase dress" project our church ladies are involved in. I rooted through my stash for fabrics that would be suitable and that I had held on long enough to be able to part with. I now have 4 large bags of fabric, notions, elastic etc. sitting on my dining room table. I need to deliver them to the church so that the ladies can use them on their work day coming up in a few weeks. Of course I ran across things I meant to use in a special project and now it is sitting out waiting also for my attention. Our intentions are always good.

Thanks, and it has been a treasure hunt. I normally enjoy reorganization projects. I think having three rooms in upheaval is part of the problem. Plus I think I have to look at and label every drawer before I put it back. I remember when I was a kid and mom would make us clean our room, mys sisters would get so made at me. Instead of helping to pick up, I had to empty out my drawers and straighten them. Then I could do the rest. Did the same when I cleaned my kids rooms. I am not a stuff it out of the way type of cleaner. It takes longer, but when it is done, it stays done longer. Or so I tell myself anyway. LOL

Having JUST remodeled my sewing room I totally understand where you are. Just hang in there. Instead of looking at the BIG job, break it down into steps. Then you can check these off as they get done. It makes you feel more accomplished and less overwhelmed. I finally cleaned my table last Sunday. Feels good to be done.

Just pace yourself. Try not to do too much at one time. You will have it done before you know it and will look back and this stress will be a distant memory. Good luck!!

Hi,
I am right with you...in the past couple of years, our only son graduated from college and bought his first house...we have a big living room/game room combo, we "gifted" our son with the pool table, dart board, foos ball table from the game room area...freeing up a lot of that area, we also have another empty living room and his old bedroom...this is in addition to the sewing room I have always used...So, now trying to decide how to get it all organized, and the actual process is at times overwhelming! I have so much sewing stuff it is taking up 2 rooms, 2 big rooms...anyway, seems the more I try and organize, the worse it all looks...I, too feel as if I am an "organized hoarder"...and when that show comes on, I actually get up and clean some more...very OCD..lol..so, sending you a "partners in crying" hug...and I know we will get it all done, and it will be awesome...really...!!
K
PS And, I have to admit, I am so proud of our son...yet do have some "empty nest" feelings, too...

You'll eventually be done and it'll be worth the mess and effort you're going through right now. Hang in there.
