Hello. I have the worst cold ever! I never get sick. I just finished a 10 day rx of augmentin (antibiotic) that had the dose pak of steroid for the first 5 days (or six cant remember). Well the chest thing is gone but now I am stuck with this serious cold. I have one good nostril and the other is well lets just say it is doing its own thing.

I have taken thera flu extra strength cold. But it only puts a dent. Ate chicken noodle soup. and still feel like crap. Also took alkaselzter extra strength, and it helped me sleep today.

Getting ready for work now, we dont have sick time. I work from 10p to 630 am.

Will I have to just suffer for a few days, or does anyone have any magic?

There is an old saying in Germany: "Treat a cold it will last a week, leave it be and it will take 7 days." Sorry you got sick. Are you sure it's not the flu? Don't allow yourself to get dehydrated, take lots of "C" and get as much rest as you can. Too bad you have to go to work.

Cyberhugs from CA

A big hug may help, since online you can not give me your cold.

Feel better.

I heard "oil of oregano" helps. You can get it at a health food store. A few drops in water (not too much it will burn). Ask at the store, they can tell you the ratio. Tastes awful but apparently it works. Touch wood I haven't been sick enough to take it, but my friends swear by it.

Take care.....

Hope you are feeling better soon! If you just had a cold, those antibiotics were not a good idea. If you had an infection, the meds should have cleared that up and what you might have now is a cold virus. Antibiotics won't help.

Vitamin C, zinc, water and rest should help with the common cold. Antibiotics are useless. Please don't abuse antibiotics. You may really need them some day and they won't work if you took them for the wrong reason. Unfortunately, our bodies become resistant to antibiotics, so you want to hold out taking anything like that unless it's really needed. Doctors throw those drugs at patients because patients whine and think antibiotics cure the common cold. They don't.

A little education goes a long way. I know most doctors don't want to explain if you're not willing to listen and comprehend, but if you're curious, engage them in conversation. They're really quite informative.

Sorry I'm so preachy, but just had a friend's son contract MSRA this week. Thank goodness he didn't abuse antibiotics or he might have lost his foot or leg. I'm going to spread that word!

The anitibiotics were for my chest infection. I have a tendency to get pneumonia (4 tiimes in last 5 years) so the anitbiotics were for something else.

This was just a little present on the side.

And no you aren't preaching. Antibiotics are abused. I only take them once a year, maybe twice at the most. I worked with a woman whose husband had MRSA and it was just awful. She finally had to quit because he didn't take care of himself and she had to be home with him so much. I think he finally has it managed but will never be the same.

I am going to fill up on C and Zinc. and get as much rest as I can.
Thanks to everyone for the help and kind words!

Hugs to you and lots of hot liquids. Stay away from ice as it increases your phlegm output. Try a nasal wash. Walmart sells them. Works wonders.
Lots of mommy advice coming your way.
Oh, I forgot. My family calls this the mommy bath-1 cup of epsom salts to 2 cups apple cider vinegar. Run bath water as warm(hot) as you can stand, pour in the ingrediants, get all the way down as far as your body will allow, soak a wash cloth in the water and place over your face. After you dry off, jump in bed, cover up, and sleep away. This helps rid your body of toxins. Good for sore achey muscles and just relaxing.
