Default Empty Nest

My baby is leaving :'( He turned 22 on June 28 and on that day he took the Oath of Office and joined the Army. He goes off to basic training on September 25 after that he is off to California for Advanced training. The good part is he is going in as a PFC, gets a $20,000 sign on bonus. ;D His MOS is Cryptographic Linguist. So I am very proud of him because that is a hard test to pass to be accepted for that MOS. But that is not all he is getting married before he goes to basic...just a courthouse marriage. Then before he goes off for advanced training they are going to have the big wedding.

Enjoy your quiet. A bit hard to get used to, but in no time at all, you'll start to enjoy your new found freedom. Good luck to your son and his new bride. I met my husband half way thru his Navy career. It was the best time of our lives. Military life is so special. All the friends you meet along the way. Your family is usually so far away, that friends become your extended family. I wish them well.

It sounds like you raised a wonderful young man & you should certainly be proud of yourself. I know how it feels to have an empty nest but it's only lonely for a little while. It was pretty easy to get used to having the house to yourself. Besides... it sounds to me like you have a project waiting for you -- a wedding quilt for the happy couple! My DD recently got engaged to a JAG so I'm in the same boat your are! They're in San Diego. Where will your kids be? Please congratulate your DS & DIL for me & thank him for his service.

Congratulations, to your son! That's the problem with having kids - they insist on growing up!

Good luck to your DS. I married my DH just as he joined the Army. We had a lot of happy and sad years. Sad when we had to be apart. After years or retirement we still stay in touch with some very good friends we made over the years. You will miss him and be sad for awhile but what joy when they come home to visit and bring those wonderful grandchildren that will be coming over the years to come.

I cannot even imagine how you feel; having your baby grow up. I took it hard when my son (first) grew up and out; and now I cannot imagine having an "empty nest" as I still have 5 children at home and the youngest is only 5. I'm sure it will take some getting used to; but I can see a positive side of it as well. Please thank you son for me for his service!!!

Good luck and much happines to your son and future daughter-in-law. I met my husband in Japan. He was there with the AF and I was there with the Dept. of Defense Dependnt School, better known as DODDS. We met at aHalloween party and a year later were married at the Tokyo US Embassy and the Japanes Land Office.
