Many credit cards now allow you to set notifications about when your card is used and is not present such as online payments. It is sent immediately to your phone or email and allows you to respond if it was not you using the card. Also if you find charges on your account that you did not authorize or were tricked into authorizing demand that your bank or credit card company allow you to file a Reg. E claim. They can not refuse to take the claim or require you to provide a police report and they have to investigate in a required timeframe (10 days) from time you notify them (by phone, email, mail or in person). If they don'accept your claim they are in violation of Reg. E and you can report them to CFPB. Sorry if too much information - I was auditor/compliance specialist for over 15 years and this was one of my quarterly reviews of bank to make sure we were never in violation.

My daughter also said after the application process at the airport, the lady ("gov't official") walked my daughter over to the security checkpoint line and brought her right up to the front of the line (I guess to make it seem more official). She said the lady was set up there near the security checkpoint. (Again, I guess to make it seem more legit.)

I'm wondering how these people even get permits to run their business in the airports?

This is really puzzling. A relative said they had to go to the TSA and it took quite a while. I'm not positive, but I think they said they were fingerprinted.

Interesting. DH and I recently flew to FL on a local, low-budget airline. He ended up purchasing the tickets at the airport (several weeks in advance of the trip) as he had questions and it was actually cheaper than purchasing online. At any rate, somehow we were granted 'pre-check' status for both flights (to/from). There was no fingerprinting involved at all. No fees. The only 'advantage' of the pre-check status was a separate, shorter line to the security area and we didn't have to remove our shoes or take the laptops out of the bags. Otherwise, no significant advantage.

We are not frequent flyers by any stretch of the imagination. We did run into a friend while at the airport waiting to board. He is a frequent flyer but says he does not pay the additional fee for the pre-check as it seems to be granted to folks on a random basis...sometimes he get's 'pre-check' status; other times not. Biggest advantage I can see is not having to remove your shoes. Particularly this time since I was traveling in flip flops and not looking forward to walking the airport floors barefoot!

Not sure about the random pick but we fly usually once a year, to the family reunion. Ours are always marked Pre-Check????? No we didn't have any fingerprints etc, all done online when we registered with the airline. But we always fly the same airline for years.

We have pre-check status and didn't even know we had it. We were in the regular line at the airport and the security checkpoint guy told us we didn't even have to be in that line; he told us to notice the little "precheck" stamp. We are assuming that because Hubby recently got approved for a green card (so they have ALL of our personal info) that they automatically assigned us pre-check status.

Anyway, we now go to the short or NO line. And I DO appreciate not having to disrobe or pull out my laptop.

BUT precheck does not prevent you from being randomly pulled for the strip search. On our last trip, after going through precheck, Hubby got the random RED light flag at the x-ray counter and had to go through the manual search. I sat and video'd the whole 15 minute ordeal. I'm glad we were not rushing to a flight that day.

My youngest travels a lot and she is super savvy. Being very young she gets approached often (people think she is an easy target - foolish). Being a young person, she ALWAYS has her phone out. When they approach and start their speech, she raises her phone as if to take their picture. Needless to say, they quickly leave her.

I think if you are "old" like me they usually let you in the pre-screening line, it saves
taking off shoes and jackets and the line is generally a little shorter.
