When I bought laundry detergent, I got the kind that would drain back into the jug. Now I make my own no suds version with Zote soap, washing soda and borax and sometimes add oxiclean to the load. I used this in my traditional top loader before we moved. When we got here, there was a HE front loader which I hated, and now I have a new what I call hybrid set - well the washer - it has an agitator, top loader, but has a setting that I can fill it up to the top if I am washing a quilt. Anyway, my detergent is so much cheaper and does a fine job. I make it a few times a year in the food processor. And zero suds

Just got a new washer and dryer. I don't mess with anything, I just want to wash and dry it. My tv and computer went Kaput also, so I am a bit "electronically overloaded"

I make my own dry laundry powder, so no drips ever.

Where did you get your "recipe" for laundry powder? I've been thinking about doing this also!

This is true but really large ones sits on the side with a drip spount, like a big drink cooler. My fabric softener I just bought on sale has this one. I'm trying Tide pods this time to see how they work. I'm always getting something on the front of my clothes either from me dripping or more so from my grandkids and if I don't catch it, it looks like an oil stain even after washing. I hate having to pre soak or spray my clothes, well its having to check everything as I'm sorting to see if it needs treated. I hope it works well.

I do the same thing. Works!

Lovelyl, here is the formula i use: http://howdoesshe.com/cheaper-and-be...dry-detergent/

When i first started making it i grated the zote soap and it is quite a bit of work. Now i buy zote white soap flakes at walmart and use those instead of grating the zote soap. That makes it much easier.
This is a low suds formula, so don't expect to see lots of bubbles.

I use to make the homemade laundry powder with the soda ash, grated soap, and borax and it worked fine but after a while the clothes became 'harsh' especially the towels. I used vinegar in the rinse water but it didn't help much.

Onebyone did you also put a fabric softener in yours? I add purex crystals to mine.
