Default Any Idea how to Brighten Yellowed Satin??

I want to make a ring bearer pillow from my wedding dress which is about 35 years old!! Because my Mom just had it stored in a Cedar Closet in a plastic bag, it has yellowed. It almost looks like an ecru or off white not a true yellowed!

What would yall recommend that I wash it in to brighten it back up. I always hand wash the pageant dresses I work on with Dawn dish liquid but that is just to remove makeup and tanning lotion.

Of course, I will test it. Has anyone used Dawn dishwashing detergent with Peroxide? My sister just gave me that recipe for removing any stain and she says it works...she's a nurse so she may be right!! I know she has to get stains out of her clothing.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!!

I would go with dakotamaid's suggestion or with http://www.retroclean.com . Because of the age of the fabric, I would not try the peroxide. Peroxide is hard on fabric, and this is likely to be relatively fragile fabric.

Can you leave the satin as is and do a extra white lace overlay? You would still be using the fabric and the ecru would mellow the white lace. How about using it to do an off white/ white crazy patch square for the pillow. Someone posted a link to a pretty crazy patch ring bearer pillow today?

Great sites and suggestions everyone! We were going to also use a flower girl dress from my niece's wedding from 15 years ago and she just told me the collar has yellowed. It is handmade with poly cotton so I can use 2 of the products mentioned!

I LOVE to "save" vintage items!!

I think you should leave it as is. I think it's a charming idea and should show it's history.
