We were in Hawaii at the end of August. someone suggested freezing bottles of water and setting them in front of a fan. The first thing we did when we got there was go to the store and buy two gallons of water. Luckily we had a freezer in our rooms. We put them in front of the fan every night and it really helped us sleep. Thanks for the great idea! Other than being hot at night, we had a very nice vacation!!!

I tried this trick myself when it was so stinkin' hot here. It did help a lot with the a/c situation.

even a wet hand towel draped over the fan will cool things ( just have to redamped freq) if no freezer is on hand.

good ole country living at it's best.... home made swamp coolers!! LOL

Used to put the wet towel over the air vent on the car before A/C was standard equipment for vehicles.

Living in the south no way I could do that, it would be raining in the house! No AC in Hawaii? I never think of asking about having AC or heat when making reservations. It seems it is not standard in most places.

Wish I had heard of that when I went to Colorado. It was hotter than blue blazes upstairs. I did set up a fan at the top of the stairs in the evening which helped some.

We have stayed in this place lots of times, so we knew ahead of time that there was no AC. Electricity is so expensive there, that only the hotels have AC, for the most part. It is usually OK unless the trade winds stop blowing and they only stopped a couple of nights when it got hot. We are big babies, coming from the Pacific NW where it hardly ever gets hot.

I just hope I never have to go back there in August again. We usually go to the Oregon coast in the summertime, but we just decided to try the summer in Kauai...
