My DIL's brother gave me his army pants (about ten pairs) to cut down into long shorts. I have these great leftovers and yet have no idea what to do with them. Has anyone made a quilt with this kind of fabric (heavy cotton)?

Haven't made a quilt but I have seen purses made using this fabric and they look great!

Maybe you could mix them with jean fabric to make a heavy quilt.

It would make a nice heavy "guy" quilt.

sounds like the start of a great memory/military thank you quilt, to me. matched with some twill, it could serve as a great background for service patches, etc.

Better ask them if that's what they want.
When my brother came back from Vietnam, complete with lots of medals he never shows anyone, he didn't want to keep any of his uniforms. He gave a lot to me and I wore them back packing and hunting until I sorta outgrew them in the hips department. Still have them, not sure why, it's been a few years since then. I think I'll dig them out and try them on again. Might wind up making a purse or tote from them. It sure is a strong fabric.

Any of the jean quilt patterns would work, and you could throw in a bit of denim if you don't have quite enough fabric. Let us see what you come up with....lots of us love quilts made from alternative fabrics.
