Default Best Electronic Book, anyone?????

I really didn't think I would want an electronic book, but someone posted somewhere on here about using it to keep their quilt magazines on. HOOKED!!!!! Now I want one!! Anyone out there care to tell me which one would be the best for this. I have STAcKS of quilt magazines and it takes me forever to go through them to find what I am looking for. IE: I want to make a wallet. I know I have several patterns in those books, but can't find it. I'd rather be sewing. LOL Another expense brought on by reading this board. Whats a girl to do??? Thanks for the assist. I'll be watching patiently (or not) for your opinions.

I have a Nook and love it. I know lots of folks with Kindles who love them. But I will say this - reading patterns on a Nook or Kindle isn't all that easy. You might want to ask friends or family who already have one of these to let you see how it would be to read a pattern off of one.

I can read anything I have on my Nook on my computer as well, so that's how I do it when I want to search through patterns from my online quilt magazines, not my Nook itself.

Good luck!!

I have a Kindle and love it, but since I already own a Kindle I haven't bothered to check out the Nook or other e-readers. You might head to your local Barnes & Noble, where you can get your paws on a Nook and ask a million questions. Then check with your friends, find one that has a Kindle that you can play with.

I have the Nook 3G and the Nook color and love, love, love it. For me it's easy to read, I can sort them onto different shelves for organizations. I can read day time or night time; the light makes no difference at all. I can put music, pdf's movies on my color etc. I have an organizer on it so that I can keep my bills and schedule right there and update as needed and I get great support in the local Barnes and Noble stores.

O was given a Kindle Fire for Christmas and I absolutely love it! I can't compare it to the others, because I didn't have one before.

I have a Nook color and and old Kindle. I like my Nook the best because it has a backlight. You can read at night without a light on and I think it is easier to read for my old eyes. I am not sure about the Kindle Fire. My brother has both and he prefers his Nook color better than the Kindle Fire.

I've been looking at getting one of these too. When I've gone to the Amazon or B&N Newstands, I don't see much for quilting magazines to subscribe to. Are you getting them there, or directly from the magazine publishers? And if from the mag. publishers, what format are they in? From what I understand, Kindle has it's own format so can you read them on a Kindle?

So many questions.......

Also, can you print from them? Like a template for a pattern?

WOW!! Lots of info. And more questions, that I am trying to get the answer to. Went to Best Buy yesterday and TRIED to get some info. I guess I didn't look enough like I would buy, cause I sure couldn't get any help. Wish I had thought and gone to the Barnes and Noble. Even at the BB they said the Nook was better than the Kindle, but it was also $50 more. Found the Nook Tablet for the same price as the Fire on the net. Not sure about buying over the net cause of the support issues. But it sounds like the Barnes and Noble people might be helpful in either case. Can't wait to go to the B&N to check it out. I think a LOT depends on the store near you. The BB closest to me sucks! Haven't been to the B&N lately. I am also looking to find out about the on-line magazines. Neither the Fire or the Nook has quilt mags listed in their "store". Fire sent me to info on buying the mags, but not electronic, and no link to go see. Will find time later to visit a couple of their sites and see what the availability is. Whew, this is a workout!!! I don't usually buy this type of toy for myself, so I want to get it right! Thanks for any and all input, I'd like to keep this thread going with any and all info that can be shared. At least we will all know one way or the other if we are thinking of something like this. Even my DH is for it, of course he knows how much I spend on magazines and he sees the piles I have. I don't like to get rid of them, as I use them for inspiration.
