Default Birthday gift or not

If a childhood friend (who lives far away but we keep in touch somewhat by email) sent you a birthday gift from her business and included her business card would you feel obligated to send her a gift for her birthday or is a birthday card enough? I don't like doing gift exchanges anyway.

When I saw her a few years ago, she was trying to sell me items from the business she was in at the time. What do you think?

most of the time when a friend really likes you as a friend. they don't try just to sell you stuff. She is promoting her business and hoping you will buy. Just send a card since you don't keep in that good of contact anyways. A real friend calls you and says Hi how are you, I miss talking to you. that is what my friends do.
you do what you feel comfortable with.
personally I would just send a card.

I think if you wonder if you should send a gift or not then don't. A card is fine. Good question.

I agree that you don't need to send a gift. I might send a little thank you card now and a birthday card on her b-day but wouldn't buy her a gift.

No way. Sounds like she is just in it for the sale. That's just annoying IMHO

That's what I'd do, too. And if she's miffed that you don't buy her a gift, she won't give you one next year & you won't have this same dilemma then.

Send a card, if you care to. I try to never feel obligated - that's not gifting to me.

I think I'd just send an E-card or wish her happy birthday on facebook.
