It is called Black Friday...because supposedly that is the day of the year that the stores go from running in the red to black

I love Black Friday!!! I shop that night, then you couldn't get me into a store until February. I am a woman with a mission that night....maybe that's why so many of you hate black friday. You must prepare..........prep........maybe a little camo makeup! LOL

You couldn't get me near a store on Black Friday. I take care of the grandsons so DD and DDIL can shop. They pick up the things we want to buy, so it works out great.

I feel the same way. The stores often run better sales closer to Christmas if you watch and wait. I have a hard time getting into the Christmas spirit when all the rude, obnoxious bargain hunters are out. Not everyone is that way, but, around here, the jerks outnumber the nice shoppers. Christmas has gotten way too commercial. I think too many people have forgotten the reason for the season. I wish we could go back to simpler times.

Not me. Too much drama trying to fight the crowds. I may go to the Navy Exchange. Their early bird specials run until 11 and they always have plenty to last; even high value items. For the most part most of the things that I may want are normally available in the afternoon so if I go it will be then. My daughter loves to go and I have no problem watching the kids so that she can have the fun.

The majority of shoppers want Black Friday so that's where the profit is. If the majority of shoppers stayed home then it would change. There aren't enough non Black Friday shoppers to make a difference. There are many stores and companies I boycott for different reasons but it only makes a difference to me, not them.

I've only done Black Friday once, since I dislike crowds and standing in lines; last year JoAnn's had a great sale on flannel, and I happened to still be up, so I went. Got there at opening time, and all the carts were already taken, and the line for the fabric counter was 20 people deep. I did find several bolts of flannel I liked, so braved the line. Since they use the number system I even got to sit down in the art department for a while. If I go again (only if there's a really good bargain on something I really want, and that's not likely with my current stash!) I will take a snack, a book, and of course my ever present water bottle. And get there even earlier, as the longer past opening the longer the lines.

A more than a few years back, after retirement I needed some extra income. I took a seasonal job at Target. Of course, I worked Black Friday. It was a big deal for the cashier's. I arrived at work at 4:30 am and could not believe the crowd of pajama clad folks waiting for the early opening. When they opened the doors I was aghast! I'd never seen anything like that before. It was the lowest level of human behavior I had ever witnessed. I will never forget it. Now I don't even go for coffee or a loaf of bread on Black Friday. I think it is deplorable that we have started selling Christmas at Halloween and that we do not even keep the day of Thanksgiving sacred. There's no need to start selling at 8pm for the almighty buck. Sorry for my spouting off and thanks for the soap box. Now I will step down!
