Bread Bag Rugs

My grandma used to mkae this round rugs out of bread bags. They were colorful, and very practical. I have no idea of how big to cut strips, or how she managed to fasten them together. If I could save enough of the bags, I might be able to make Christmas gifts out of them because i am hoping to make very affordable gifts this year. Does anyone have an idea of how to make these? Boy do I miss my grandma!

I know that you can crochet them. I was on a crochet board and a lady did them, they had a special way to cut the bag into strips. I wish I could help more, I think the board was crochetville.com, or something VERY close!

GOOGLE it. That's the best way to find info. Was it braided? My sister makes those wool braided rugs, she cuts the strips, braids them and then there is a way to sew them together. If you're using plastic you could probably cut additional strips to bind the braids together or use fishing line. http://www.craftown.com/instruction/rugs.htm

I made these in the 80's :D:D:D
I cut the strips 2" wide, starting at the top, spiraling down to the bottom. Variations in the width of the strips will not show up in the end :wink: So just eyeball the 2" when cutting the strips.
Knot the ends together, and roll in a ball like you would yarn.
I used a size J or K crochet hook to crochet them into ovals, rounds, squares and rectangle shapes. I had everyone and their brothers saving them for me LOL
